Do you think it's stupid that New York is thinking about banning sodas sold more than 16 oz at restaurants?

The ban also won't apply to diet sodas, it has been proven that diet sodas are worse for you than regular sodas but you should be able to put whatever you want in your body and you could just buy several smaller drinks instead of just one big drink. It would make a lot more sense just to buy one big drink.

I've lived in NY for a 95% of my life. All I can say is if it's really stupid NY will want to do it. Sometimes I think NY is wacky California East.

Personally, I don't care. Because I don't drink pop/soda anyways. People should choose what they want to drink, and how much of it they want. I don't want my life being dictated, and me being told what I can eat or drink, or how much of it I'm allowed to have.

With this new ban, I can see people start to buy 2 regular size drinks to make up for missing their Large Sized drink

For one thing how would this law be enforced? Any law is only as strong as one can enforce it. what are going to do? Hire spies to spy on consumers?

This is to the stupid Mayor. I would think that you have more pressing things on you plate. You have all that time and money to deal with the soda problem in NY? I guess you have nothing to do sir. Will some wise people in NY please vote this man out.

I agree in Principle, but it would be difficult to implement, what's to stop someone from ordering 2 drinks (excepting ¢a$h)? Just over 50 years ago Coca Cola came in 6½ oz. bottles. "Food Inc." (checkout the film) has been doing a "Portion Distortion" routine on us for decades. Perhaps a Gluttony Tax on exravegant servings (use the Food Guide) be collected to help stem the 'Pandemic of Obesity' that's being an ever-increasing strain on the Medical System.

One negative. The larger size is cheaper than two that equal the larger amount. So people who are economy minded wouldn't buy two beverages that equal the one larger size.

Well aware of Economy of Scale but still think the Gluttony Tax on extravagant portions has merit. Never mind Fast Food, some restaurants offer fare that's just as insalubriuos. Heard some entrés contain an entire stick of butter in them. Disclosure of nutritive value on the menus. The way things are going now, today's childen are going to be facing diabetes, heart disease & liver dysfunction in their late 20's.

Absolutely! And it's likely to cause people to actually consume more than the typical 20 oz. size when they get a refill! Why can't politicians mind their own business? It's certainly not their business to run everyone's life and every business that is not owned by them.

People should be able to get whatever they want if it is legal. Hopefully people will protest with their wallets and just stay away from New York for a week or two. I am guessing if that happened EVERY food server would be screaming for a recall to get the idiot out of the office !
