Yes, the majority of men don't have to think of the possibility of being raped when walking to the car. Also, men can expect to be paid what they're worth, unless theres another form of discrimination at hand. It's easier to be a man in the workplace, especially a single man. Single women do not often receive the respect that single men do. Women are expected to 'let men down easily' and always be receptive to their advances, but the same is not said of men. When a woman wants to have sex with different people she is called a slut, but most of the time it's accepted for a man to do so. It's easier to be a man, unless you already face discrimination based on race or sexuality etc.

I don't know about getting better. women still feel they have to spend 2 to 3 hours of the day either getting ready for work or getting ready for bed and that doesn't even include taking a crap. They still have to deal with monthlies, pap smears, life changes, etc. I'm very thankful that I'm a man and my getting ready for bed routine involves stripping down and jumping in bed and I can wake up and be out the door in 30 minutes including a 5 minute shower.

Seems like a streaming string of stereotypes: Men get raped too; men get discriminated against as well; Single women are respected, especially single mothers over single fathers; Men and women are both looked on as sluts when they fornicate; etc.. You list all of these exceptions tied into the stereotypes as to give them more merit; however, each gender has their own set of stereotypes and problems: Single fathers are stereotypically considered dead beats towards their children; When there is a domestic dispute, husbands are labeled as the abusers; When a man gives a woman equal treatment with laborious duties which are historically male duties, men are labeled with likewise derogatory terms; this can go on and on forever.

I would even go as far as to say that most of the stereotypes and problems endured by women in contemporary society are perpetuated by women more than men. There are women who still manipulates the world through sex appeal; women, also, degrades other women based on superficiality that was stereotypically from men. There are women who abuse their husbands verbally, more than physically, but isn't verbal abuse far worst than physical? Or is that just something we say when the situation calls for it? Let's see, what else: Women are continuously raped by other women: it's in the news everyday. Ever since women have gotten more rights, there has been escalated degrees of crimes involving women that has been historically male crimes. In the news everyday, you hear about mothers torturing their babies to death... Therefore, men and women really need to stop perpetuating this ridiculous/nonsensical stereotype that women are just the salt of the earth and can do no wrong, and men are the cause of all evils in the world.

Women and men need to stop playing the DAMN victims and GROW UP.

    Take care,

The single mother v the single father, per your statement trumps all. The ladies get such a free pass in that arena that the rest of the arguments are of small consequence.

I think that it's definitely gotten a lot better than history, BUT I still read some articles where women get mistreated by men at work, definitely because they are simply female. I think the biggest hardships that are still prominent today, are that we are expected as females to be the more attractive sex, wax our legs eyebrows underarms upper lip and other areas. We are expected to dress flattering and attractive, and keep our hair styled nice. We are also expected to wear makeup, and have great teeth and skin. And another thing that is extremely prominent is that women basically can't have sex with more than two or three guys otherwise they are considered a slut, whereas men can have sex with five girls and still be considered okay. I had a friend who'd had sex with 6 in steady relationships, and no one even cared. If that had been me, I would have been labeled a slut quicker than you could say it. And the last thing would definitely be the fact that men are starting to say now that women can't take pain. Well, you've never had a period a day in your life and I've seen the comments on here, YES it is that bad. Want to know what my period is like? It's like a volcano erupting in my stomach while having cold sweats and exhausting nausea, all while throwing up and bleeding from my goddamn uterus. Not pretty, AT ALL. So yes, women DO have it harder still, I just hope one day double standards just DON'T exist anymore at all.

That's what I heard too, there was an article on the news about it earlier this year, and I was laughing because it was talking about how women can withstand more pain then men. At the same time though, I found it a little odd that men look the stronger sex but women are the stronger sex.
  • Tom R 007 Jules 2012/07/15 10:30:08

Talking about double standards. I've worked as a childcare teacher and have been labelled by some ignorant idiots as a paedophile simply because I'm a male. Many parents will refuse to leave their child with a male care giver BECAUSE he's a male. No other reason. You think being labelled a slut is bad? So what? Try being labelled a paedophile when you've done nothing wrong. However, no one has a problem with female child carers, do they? I would choose to be labelled a slut over being labelled a paedophile any day.

Having said that no one has it harder. We all have to deal with our own issues and I get sick of women saying they have it worse just as I get sick of men saying that they have it worse.

Ah well, I didn't think of that now did I?? LOL Well I guess we DO have our own fair shares of social problems, I guess you just don't heard about them as much from men. That moves my feminist opinions back a couple of steps...I guess trying to make double standards dissapear, I just brought them out more.
  • Tom R 007 Jules 2012/07/15 23:41:45
    Tom R 007
No you didn't think of that, but that's the issue. No one, man or woman, ever thinks about the other side, because they're both too busy moaning about how they get it worse. This world would be a lot better if men and women would stop playing the "who's the biggest victim" game, and just accept that life is hard for everyone.

We both have it hard for various reasons. More women are raped than men so women may have it somewhat harder and definitely do in that area. Men have it hard because we hear how terrible we are and how we cheat and play games. However, even many women and radio stations, etc, say that women cheat more. Life can suck either way but no matter what we have to make the best of it.

Really should of checked off " No, everybody gets a fair shake ".

Juggling Being a mom, school, wife , bills, dept, cleaning up after everyone and keep intact with your home and your self, having little time at the end of the day to relax or get assignments done, being hormonal and dealing with all those crazy emotions gets tiring haha

But everyone goes through it even men, life in general isn't easy but it wouldn't be worth living if it didn't have those challenges.

As a women, I proudly say no. Everybody does get their own fair shake and that is as true as it gets.
Personally, I think gender has nothing to do with it. Sexism is hard to describe most of the time and some women use it as a false defense. Do not get me wrong there are still flaws in our (America's government) system that are slightly sexist and unfair, however I think now American women need to shut up.
Honestly, look around the world, in some places women are still in the dark ages, and here we are sitting around complaining about how we dont get paid while they dont even get the chance to show their face to the public without getting hit by a stone.
Not many people who are in America that answer this (ecspecially women complaining about how hard it is) don't even know how lucky we are. America has let women do amazing things, and it all started (which I am proud to say) in Wyoming to let women vote. Take what we have been given for granted ladies and dont waste your time wondering how to do more, but instead how lucky you are to even have as much rights as you do!
Just remember that there are alot of things unfair here, but let me tell you other women have it worse.
  • Twinky Pikku13 2012/07/15 00:06:07
    Twinky
but surely, that's a reason to fight for true equality?
The fact that great women fought for the right to vote and the right to work, doesn't mean "well, that's enough" it means, they wanted equality! The fact that there are women in the world who don't have equality at all, is a terrible thing - but saying - "well, we;re just have almost equality" isn't going to make their struggle any better - in fact it could make it worse because Saudi arabia could look at the US and say "see - even they don't give women equal treatment - even the yanks know women are lesser"
  • Pikku13 Twinky 2012/07/22 20:58:32 (edited)
    Pikku13
But who is to say what is equal or not? And where on earth did you ever hear a Saudi Arabian man say such things? Please do tell me, I want to find your sources.
All I am saying is that we should be glad for what we have, we've come a far way but we arent the only ones. There are other women who still need the chance to catch up to us now, and we should be focusing on world equality on the war of sex's, not just American women. If the entire world can be equal, despite color of skin, the sex of a person, or the country they come from, then there will be true equality. But god only knows how long that will take. This war will go on for ages between people like you and I who face off in differing opinions, and it always will. There will never be a true equality if there are so many people with different beliefs and opinions. The ony thing we can do now is to agree to disagree, and try to atleast show this forum that their can be equality within atleast the disagreement of people.
P.S Women didn't fight to vote in Wyoming. The men just counted the women and cows together because Wyoming was so small and to be able to vote as a state it needed to count them. Women didn't even put up much of a fight there.. It just happened.

It's harder for a woman to just BE a woman, what with the biological free for all she was born with. I love women, but would never want to be one.

But ladies, I've got news for you. The only real oppression your gender is still seeing, institutionally, is unequal pay for equal work. That is flat wrong and needs to be corrected, but seeing sexism in every little thing isn't going to help your cause.

Rape is an individual thing, not institutional. It's horrific and men who commit rape should be castrated, but it's no longer a tacitly accepted part of our society.

And guys don't get to "have it all" either. That's life.
