Do You Think It’s Crazy to Throw Your Dog a Big Birthday Party?

Catch My Party 2012/08/20 16:00:00
No, it’s not crazy. A dog is a true member of the family. Why not celebrate his or her milestones?
Yes, your dog doesn’t know the difference. It’s a total waste of time and money.

I’ve never thrown my dog a birthday party, but I’ve been to some very fun dog parties. I think any excuse to throw a party is a good excuse, and if your dog gets some extra treats out of it, I say everybody wins. Just don’t make your dog wear that silly party hat for the whole party! :) Check out some adorable dog parties people have thrown.

In the gaf of growin up, we had many pets. We nnver gave a party for the dogs because they were always invited, but we aalways did it for the other pets, The Fox and the racoon.

There's probably nothing MORE deserving than a birthday for man's best friend! Dogs are the epitome of loyal -- no matter who you are, what you've done or where you live, there isn't any animal more committed to you than your dog. :)

Can you say "totally a waste of time and money"? Because this is what it really is.
I love my dog, but she has no clue as to what a birthday is, and there is no need for her to know (as she would not/could not understand the concept.

I was camping two weekends ago, my friends grandmother camps in the camper next to them, and she has a doggy. Well, she tells us all that the dogs birthday is that day, so she made him a square cake, got him a little "gift bag", and put a candle in the cake. Sat him in this small chair in front of it, put this little pink hat on him, and blew his candle out for him.... Yeeeah. We all couldn't help but chuckle a bit.

Only if I were rich like Oprah and have nothing to do with my money, but this dog would have to be highly intelligent and able to do impressive tricks, who knows, maybe he would get his own new ride as a gift and personal limo driver LOL!

i was walking my dog once and he found a used menstrual tampon in some bushes ... he was so happy until i took it away from him ... moral of the story: your dog will be happy with almost anything ... with a chew toy or a rawhide bone ... and doesn't give a cat's ass about a birthday party ... take your dog for walks routinely and s/he'll be happier than if you waste everybody's time with a birthday party for the dog ...

My dog's birthday has fallen on Easter a few times (including this year), so there's her party. We usually just make her some dog cupcakes for her birthday. This year, we had the huge plate of them as we lowered them near her to get a picture, but instead she jumped up, grabbed a cupcake, and devoured it :)

Fun all around. Why miss an opportunity for that? The real question is, if dogs live (roughly) 7 years to every 1 Earth year, do they get 7 birthdays every Earth year? For my part, just one a year. Note: "party" means a mini-meatloaf and extra treats.

I don't celebrate my birthdays, but my dog gets a party :) I love her and want to celebrate her being around another year! Plus, it's a fun kind excuse for hanging out with my friends and for her to get to see some of her friends she doesn't see a lot.

We included our pet cat in Christmas every year, while he lived. And whenever we put up a big Christmas tree, we hang an ornament in the shape of a wreath with a tabby cat trying to climb onto it. A birthday party would be good for any pet--and dogs might appreciate it better.

But again, just so long as you don't make the dog wear the silly costume all the time.

We've never thrown big parties for our pets. Besides, they'd rather have love and affection and adequate meals and even playing tug-of-war with you, rather than lots of confusing hoopla.

It think it's weird to celebrate dogs or cats birthdays or anything inbetween; but hey, pets deserve as much attention as their owners do!! [Just look at the people who go to the dog park, much celebration there!!]

I used to buy birthday/Christmas toys for my oldest dog/cat (RIP) but my 1 remaining cat, it wouldn't work on her, if I tried!!!

If you are throwing the party for your dog, it is foolishness. If you are throwing the party for you (to celebrate having the dog for another year or whatever) it is just another excuse to have a party.
The dog (or any other pet) has no clue of the significance of the activity. While it may benefit you, the effort is totally wasted on them. If you want to do something that will benefit the pet, give them a special treat occasionally. (way more often than once/year)
