Do You Think It’s Crazy to Throw Your Dog a Big Birthday Party?

Catch My Party 2012/08/20 16:00:00
No, it’s not crazy. A dog is a true member of the family. Why not celebrate his or her milestones?
Yes, your dog doesn’t know the difference. It’s a total waste of time and money.

I’ve never thrown my dog a birthday party, but I’ve been to some very fun dog parties. I think any excuse to throw a party is a good excuse, and if your dog gets some extra treats out of it, I say everybody wins. Just don’t make your dog wear that silly party hat for the whole party! :) Check out some adorable dog parties people have thrown.

Well I wouldn't throw him a party since he has no doggy friends. He really thinks I'm his mother. So he's pretty human. He just sleeps outside. But I do get him presents and on Valentine's Day I even get him a lollipop or something. He gets some cake on other people's birthdays as well. He's my 85 pound baby and I love him :)

Unless you're making it a huge affair. But I don't believe in spending much on human birthdays either.

I love my dog but a party is going a little out there. You could use the money on something you really need not on a dog. You can just give the dog more loving or a treat or something but not a party. But people can do what ever floats there boat.

I threw a guinea pig party when I was a kid. We had activities, food and games for the guinea pigs, but no I did not invite lots of people or waste money.

Not a true "party" though. Just our family and a special treat to eat or a new toy. Hell I don't need a reason to do something fun!

A dog is not a human and therefor does not grasp human concepts like clothing, birthday parties, diamond studded collars, baths or any other human concept that people constantly thrust upon dogs.

kitw Well, okay maybe the birthday bash in Vegas was a little over the top, those damn poodles destroyed the presidential suite at Circus Circus and don't get me started on what the Dachshunds did,but my cat's wedding was just lovely.

A puppy play date with some doggie treatsies would accomplish the same goal, for a lot less funds, and happier doggies.

It is absolutely insane to spend money to have a birthday party for a dog who doesn't even know that a 'day' is a 'day' let alone IT'S birthday, and will never understand, even if you throw a birthday for a pet that lives to be 150 ! Or longer !

A dog has absolutely no concept of birthdays or what any day of the month is for that matter. We had the same dog for over 16 years and never celebrated her birthday. This is done by people with way too much time and money on their hands and way too little of a sense of reality.

I have never given any of my dogs a party - I would defiantly if I had the money xD I think it would be so fun! Who doesn't love a party?
I think I have tried to make one a cake - but it didn't go to well.
I know they wouldn't really understand whats going on but they'd adore the attention from everyone <3 And i'm sure they'd get lots of chew toys and things - so s'all good :D

If the kids want to do it, it sounds like a good idea. Don't count on the dog to thank you, though, because he's not gonna care.

Dogs don't know how old they are or when it is thier birthday. so long as they are cared for and allowed to be dogs rather than pretend babies they don't need parties, silly clothes etc. They are probably happier just being dogs.

Buy some new toys for your dog rather than trowing a party witch doesn't make your pet happier in any way.

AND quit dressing them up too! There is a special corner of hell reserved for people who treat dogs like people (they are so much better) and it is run by dogs. You want a reason to have a party, make up something else!!!

It depends -- are you really throwing it for the dog, or are you celebrating family and friends? I mean, people have stupid parties for all sorts of reasons. People have parties just to have parties. I would throw a birthday party for my pet just to be goofy and have an excuse to get together with everyone. And hey, more treats for my doggie!

What the hell......it's an excuse for a party. You can get your favorite people (and maybe dogs) together and eat and drink and have fun.....besides, most pets are the most selfless, loyal, honest members of the family. Just because your family member is furry doesn't mean they don't deserve a party....XOXOXO Tanya and Snooks!!

Most dogs are stressed by a lot of commotion. Just give them a bone and new chew toy and they'll be happiest. If you want to have a part, okay, but admit it's for YOU.

Every dog, like every human, has a different personality. Some don't like commotion, and some are very gregarious.
