Do you think football should be banned from High School?

you know he should have researched risks of playing football before he even started now Im no fan f football i think its pointless bunch of men running up and down a field with a stupid ball

I agree but football players like the challenge. And how many high schoolers who are offered a lot of money can refuse it??

We should just stop putting so much emphasis on sports in school and as a professional career. Why do pro ball players get paid so much anyway?

Because people apparently like the violence. Perhaps its a good thing and you get to express yourselves at the expense of other destroying their bodies. Not that they are thinking that way but thats the truth.

I think we should do it to ourselves and feel the pain.

no thanks. Actually when I was in junior high an 18 year boy next door to us lost a leg playing football at St.Peters college in J.C.. Lucky he lived and became a teacher and had a normal life. But in those days, no antibiotics and it was not uncommon for injured students to die of pneumonia or have serious long term injuries.

There are risks associated with all sports. If you decide to play football, you're taking that risk. Schools have you fill out forms to show that you accept the risks involved.

I agree. Its not going away. But the young kids in High School should know the risks. As for the older professionals they know the risk but take it any way. MACHO

It's why the British, Aussies and Kiwis usually look on American football players as a bunch of pansies.

I think the Brits and the Aussie like it more for the free for alls in the stadiums and outside.

And lose cheer leaders? Well I don't think Americans can handle such a loss!

Last thing that crossed my mind but I understand.

It doesn't need to be banned, but it should be treated as secondary to learning something constructive. Surely knowing the square root of nine is more important than throwing a ball and grunting at people. Just think of how many poorly educated middle-aged men have lives that are so empty that the only thing they have to fall back on while they sup yet another beer is the memory of the day they "caught that pass" or "made that touchdown."

Played football in high school and its not close to as deadly as pro or even college, while in better shape than most it pales in comparison to the heavy hitters of the upper levels, large bodies crashing together errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr duh come on people its not like these ailments are surprising.

Went to lots of football games in high school and it didn't seem so violent as the pro games we see today.Haven't been to a highschool game in years but saw some of the results in my job

Insurance, bus transportation, stadiums, land, coaching staff, . . .
A football program isn't cheep, and it serves so few students. Those students must be a few select males. Women, the small, and the handicapped need not apply. Very few positions are open in the pros every year, about a thousand, so the program does not justify itself by preparing it's few students for careers. In addition, new findings show that football injures almost every student who plays it.

Compare this to a math or science program, which costs less, serves many more students, is much more inclusive, and prepares students for fields with 10s of thousands of openings every year. Apparently, compared to football, there are very few injuries caused by the study of math and science.

Schools, like everything else, are having to make budget cutbacks. Football is a place to start.

Are you kidding, there should be a football field in every high school in the nation.

It is an individuals choice. Nobody said it should not exist. Just that it is dangerous for young bodies.

There is danger in using the toilet, there is danger in everything.

Then how would they get a football scholarship to collage if they didn't play in high school?

They would get another sport going like soccer which is not as traumatizing.

Fights are not the problem. Head trauma and permanent brain damage and bone problems which show up later on in life are the problem. Nobody notices until it is too late,

Then you might as well say no to thinks like skate boarding and riding dirt bikes. Kids get hurt on those all the time and never go see a doctor. Who knows if they have really messed something up. It just natural for kids to get hurt. It doesnt matter if its playing sports, playing with friends or just goofing off. Kids and the parents know very well what their kids are getting into joining a sports team. If they are worried then don't let them play but do not take it away from other people that know the risks and still want to do it anyway.

We also could get hit with a part falling off an airplane since we live between two airports. And There are risks in everything. I suppose as long as the parents and kids know the dangers then they are entitled to make their own choices. I have known a lot of skateboarders around here and compared to football their injuries are usually not that serious. I still think its a bad idea but it is so common here in Venice and Santa Monica that it would be strange not to see them. And they know what the risks are.

Yes he did that last night on one of the talk shows , He had two daughters with him so I guess he has no sons. It was the Jay Leno show Thursday night .

Football is a serious sport, something teens can do to take their anger out on the field, learn determination and sportsmanship, learn how to work with a team, coordination, keep fit and healthy, run off stress from school, etc. There is equipment for football, injuries are definitely expected now and then but if it gets too outta hand, the refs or team mates will put a stop to it.
There's a ton of benefits to football, sure it's a little rough but it's all in the game :)

Don't get mad. I didnt say that. I may agree though but I know how much income for schools and colleges is involved. Bradshaw said that he recently had brain scans and they showed the damage. He must be having some related physical problems.

If they want to get out there and take a risk of getting their necks broke or some other injury, let them. But they should be told of the dangers.

As long as the kids and the families understand what can happen then it is their choice. And I can't see football going away soon. It was really popular where I went to High School But so was soccer.
