I think rape is taken very seriously. Unfortunately, dape rape/acquaintance rape happens and it is hard to prove. Furthermore, this issue gets complicated when there are people out there who fake it and admit to it later. I don't think that means that rape is embraced or enabled culturally.
It is sad. Unfortunately, some rape cases are very difficult to prove, especially if the victim was traumatized and didn't come forward right away. It often comes down to someone's word against another's in the courtroom. Avoiding dangerous situations may be the best policy since you can't always prove wrong doing. I don't think that always means we live in a culture in which people trivialize rape. People take it seriously and discuss it a lot.
Wow, I hadn't seen some of those ads before. I couldn't believe that Pepsi one. I can agree that a lot of our media clearly embraces a rape culture. When I watched Wedding Crashers, I was appalled that a female character raped a male character and it was supposed to be funny. I thought it was horrifying. I can't believe the corporate sponsors let that fly.
Anyhow, in my everyday experience, I find that most men and women take rape pretty seriously.
In high school and college, the message against date rape was everywhere, to the point where I got tired of it. Seeing that video, I see why people push the anti-rape issue as far as they do.
I may biased in my answer to this question. I am not the target audience for rape culture in the media, and neither are most people I am around. Perhaps that makes me largely ignorant to how pervasive it really is.
