It seems to be something about online discussions that lets some people go a bit wild.

For the record, and FWIW, I am in real life the same I am here. The only difference is that I might not pipe up about all sorts of exotic questions that we get here.

That's easy. In real life, they have to pay consequences for being rude, so while they might think it, I doubt most would say it.....

Hiding behind a screen gives some people here a false sense of bravery. So they think that being outspoken, as they put it isn't rude but speaking ones mind when all it really is, is some form of being cowardly and attacking people isn't being strong minded or outspoken...it's weak.

beware, there are a lot of oversensitive and touchy touchy Soda-heads out there, you have to be careful with your reply whether or not it sounds funny or offensive. yes there are many bad asses here that act the way they do offline. but it's better to meet with them on this site than to see them in real life. yuk

I agree. Society is tends not to be honest at all. They would rather hid behind a facade and not say anything and just think quietly to themselves. On SH you can say what you are thinking. That does not mean you are being rude, just honest.

Many people are simply not used to honesty.

Probably not....there is a certain amount of rudeness because of the anonymity of the site, but in some cases, people who refuse to listen or allow other's the right to their own opinion are that way in life, as well as behind a computer screen.
