Do you tend to say things that aren't true when you are angry?

Some people in my family, who will remain nameless, tend to say mean things when angry, then later say, "I didn't mean it. I was just angry". The problem is that when I am angry, I don't go there. I might say something that was better kept to myself, but it isn't untrue. Therefore I tend to believe that the words said in anger are what the person really feels. I just really want to know if anyone else experiences this.

Sometimes. I have anger issues and i tend to try and stay away from people when I'm angry. I nearly ruined one of my own relationships over being pissed.

I have been so guilty of this very thing. I was an alcohol and drug addicted husband and father who caused much pain to my family by things I said and did. No excuse whatsoever.
I do think though that sometimes family members say things they later regret. Many people cannot control their mouths...others do not handle anger well at all...a few are just mean.

    btw...Hi, driley!

    Hi Groucho,

Thanks for your response. I think you are right. We all say things we later regret from time to time.
I'm glad to hear that your addiction issues are in the past. So many never come to grips with them.

LOL!! No, I tend to tell truths that I might not say out loud if I was not angry, but I don't lie when I am mad. Who can think up a lie when they are mad?

When I get angry I say mean things and mean them. It's a self defense mechanism that I have to make the person that I am angry with feel bad about themselves so I usually target things that I know will make them cry.

I always regret it later and don't mean to say it but they're always true.

Thanks for your answer. You can probably relate to how I feel. When the person says, "I didn't really mean it." I graciously accept the apology but inside I'm thinking, "Most likely you did mean it."

I more than likely think that when someone says something mean when angry they do mean it, whether or not they meant to at the time.

That's good. Being angry isn't a very healthy state of mind. We should avoid it, I think.

That person seems a little inappropriate to me. You may consider blocking them if they keep it up.

Might be harmless, but I'm not so sure.
