Do you take the opinion of someone under 18 seriously when it comes to politics?

Surfsrock~RWAC~CFM 2009/09/09 00:31:24
I’ve noticed that there are more and more kids getting into politics, which is okay but some of them are quick to dish out insults with out really knowing the whole story.
You!

You know there are a lot of kids out there who are really savvy when it comes to politics! Then there are others who just repeat what they hear. Those are the ones I dont take seriously.

nope...not in the least bit. They aren't allowed to vote for a reason. They still haven't developed the thought process it takes to thing for themselves. All they can do is repeat what the liberal media and government teachers tell them.

Absolutely not. Neither do I take the opinion of someone under the age of 35 seriously.

The reason I can't is that I lived during a time when freedom was very much under the gun. My aunts, uncles and cousins fought in WWII and they foughte to keep the United States free. They did a great job at a high cost in lives. Nothing brought this nation together more than the attack on Pearl Harbor. You actually saw patriotism in the 40's and 50's. But we grew complacent and forgot about WWII and Korea.

The 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's were all about "me". Not me, but "me!" I don't know about anyone else, but I saw each decade become more permissive than the last and more self righteious. It was a constant state of decay in values and morals.

I lived through Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush and last but not least, the worst president of all time, Obama. I've witnessed too much and I know where we, as a country, have been and where we don't want to go. Obama is taking us where we don't want to go. Trust me. I know from experience.

Sure! If they have had the intelligence to stay in school, ( and do well there) stay off of drugs, and are able to UNDERSTAND what in going on in the "Political Arena," why not? I know MANY 16, 17 and 18 year old "kids" who are Conservatively "minded" with WAY more sense that ANY Liberal 30 years old, AND UP!

Well if it's someone with the mentality of a 14 year old, then no.
Thing is most people only take them seriously when you agree with them.

Truth be told I meant a lot of adults with the mentality of 12 year olds, so I bat them away as quick is possible because I hate dealing with foolish people.

Depending on how they reason things, I do or do not.
    It varies.

Not usually! Most kids these days shouldn't drive a car, much less make political decisions! It would have to depend on the maturity of the individual kid.

I would only take seriously opinions from those under 18 if he or she had a grasp on history (you know, the subject that used to be taught in the government run schools) especially U.S. history.
I am a firm believer in the fact that everyone will have to look back on history; either by reading and learning about it, or re-living it.

It depends, I've seen a few, particularly at the beginning level of the political process, local precinct meetings, and some know more about how the process works and who stands for what than probably 3/4 of American adults do. They can hold an intelligent conversation and articulate their views. I love discussions with them, it provides a vision from the other side of the age spectrum. They're from a different time, a different world, they have different perceptions, but that doesn't mean we don't understand each other. It's their new world, the young people I've met are concerned, though primarily positive. In some I see our future leaders.
Then there's others who are nothing more than clones propagated by left leaning professors in a classroom test tube who THINK they know what's going on but are simply ranters. They're usually easy to pick out, America is evil, big business is evil, capitalism is evil, big oil is evil, Christianity is evil, everything about America sucks, they discuss politics over bottles of beer at Moe's, think they're involved because they attended a political rally once, rant about the evils of Wal-Mart, then hop in the huge SUV their daddy bought them and head to Wal-Mart to buy a bag of chips. They're usually the bunch who quickly degenerate into profanity and name calling when anyone dares to challenge their pre-conceived notion about how things really are.
You all know what I'm talking about.

Of course, if they can back up what they say with some facts. Age may impart some wisdom, but it doesn't always work out that way. Some people are clueless their whole lives.

I don't trust anyone when it comes to politics... but if I was going to.... teens are just as likely to know what they're talking about as adults. Teens are the ones who watch TV, go on the internet, and debate this stuff in school. So why not?

I've actually been told that I know nothing and have been insulted because I'm still under 18. I usually take it as a compliment because they obviously couldn't refute my point if they're resorting to petty insults.

18 who gives a rats ass its just a number. you cant judge the knowledge of a person on thier age. I bet most people over 40 would not be able to pass high school the way it is set up now so dont judge.

If they can discuss the subject in a knowledgeable, respectful, and dignified manner then I have no problem taking them seriously; after all, as the saying goes, they are the future. Some of their adult counterparts can't even behave themselves when discussing politics. However, I think it also has to be taken with a grain of salt as many are still parroting their parent's views. I know I did for quite a long time.

Not so much. I think I started paying attention to politics when I was 18, paying taxes and able to vote, until then, I didn't really care. There are some kids out there that can definately hold their own though, and I give credit to the ones who educate themselves about politics before opening their mouths.
