Sorry bout your luck there goes the gene pool. When I was in the service at Ft Knox we had a bus of kids coming back home from Kings Island and a Toyoto pick up was going down the on coming traffic lanes at 70. He hit that bus at 70 and knocked the front axel through the fuel tank and 30 some kids burned to death. Our town was stunned. I can feel for them a lot more than I do for the drunks. Sorry.

    The Toyoto driver lived.

I think we have all been touched by this issue. As long as there is alcohol and cars, this will be a reality. We all know better, but there will always be someone out there that thinks they are O.K. to drive. Sad, but true.

I dont think all kids can think or understand how one wrong choice can impact their lives. And besides we were all kids once..And the human brain is not even done growing untill the age of 21..I feel for anyone who gets into this situation,it could be my kid one day.My heart goes out to the families.

Sympathize with the family, perhaps. Depends on the situation there. Do the parents allow their teens to drink? Many do and even provide the alcohol. Do they use marijuana? How did the teens get medical marijuana?

First, I don't think that marijuana has anything to do with it. I don't use myself, but have been around plenty of people who do, and they are harmless. I have yet to see such slow reactions from that to cause an accident. Drinking is the real problem here. Were all of the teens drinking? If not, why didn't one of the others drive home. Why didn't they call their parents or another sibling or friend to drive them? I feel sorry for the families because they have to live with this. Someone should have been available to drive them and not condemn them.

However, we are all taught to not drink and drive, so there has to be some condemnation here. It does no good to condemn the dead driver, however. If the parents knew about the drinking (that their teen drank), then they should be condemned for allowing him to have a license to drive. In Virginia, parents have control of that until the teen is 18. We can take their license away if their grades are bad or if we don't like who they hang out with or whatever. It would have been a good idea here. But if the parents knew, then they sort of condoned drinking and driving, didn't they?

I find it hard to sympathize with a selfish Murderer I am so glad in this case he only killed himself he could have killed an innocent family I don't wanna judge him I do not think he deserves this or hope that any drunk driver kills themselves however our system is hardly doing anything about this I know of a third time DUI offender that got 3 months in jail a third time attempted murderer which is what he really is should get 5 or more years but molesters don't even go to jail that long America Sucks And I sympathize with his Family they can't control him and they might not of known, either way they lost someone they loved and will never see him again. and are most likely ashamed, some of us do stupid things survive and grow up I'm so sorry for him that he didn't get a chance to mature and grow up some never change anyway age doesn't always bring maturity

I've lost friends to stupidity like that. When I was a teenager, peer pressure was everywhere & I seriously doubt that times have changed. This is a heck of a lesson to learn the hard way. I'm glad that was one of the few things I didnt have to learn the hard way. The parents have to be going thru hell!

Teens, like all persons are old enough to know the ramifications of drunk driving. I don't care if teens drink, as long as they do it responsibly, and yes I believe that is possible. No one should drink and drive and if they die in the process, sorry but thats what happens. My sympathy is for those that get killed by Drunk drivers, not the drunks driving.

We never believe it will happen to us. I smoked heavily for 35 years. I have been on the road to quitting for the past 5....I make it..then I go back..then stop...it's disgusting...but I will eventually get there. I have emphyzema and there is no going back..the damage cannot be undone. I was told 5 years ago that in 10 15 more years of this I'd have to have a lung transplant if I didn't stop. I've prayed...I've tried all the drugs...it's horrible. Right now I am trying not to start back again. Point is....with all the warnings....I was young..I never believed anything would happen to me. My daughter is a nurse and she started in on me when they told me that both lungs were covered and that all of us have an extra one third of lung and that mine was just about gone...she said lung transplants were horrific. I have no intention of taking a healthy lung that someone else needs who has probably never smoked. So...when my time's up...it's up. I did this to myself...I've talked to young people about it..to no avail. It truly crept up on me....I never dreamed it was this serious.
We all do it about one thing or another. A child is lost....nothing is sadder.

this has to be stopped. Teens are not GOOD drivers to start with as they do not have experience and when they drink all common sence goes out the window. he should have his license revoked forever.
