Because I don't want this country to have to marry everyone everywhere because it would be "politically correct". Plus in my religion everyone would have to get married civilly first because it would be "discriminatory" to not allow gays to marry in the temple (or it may just not be seen as a legit marriage). And LG marriage isn't about rights, it's about redefining marriage in whole.

Absolutely not. Marriage is between one man and one woman.

    Support... No...

    Care... NO!

I am not a religious person.. so Marriage is a much different meaning to me then other people... it is just a legal contract saying a person is committing to a partner... for as long as they both think it is a good idea... but once ONE of them no longer feels it is a good idea, then they sign another contract to dissolve the marriage and properly dispose of the joint property.

    Based on that definition - - I don't see a problem.

But then, since Marriage can be only a temporary thing for only as long as both parties wish to enforce the contract - - I don't understand why people get married in the first place!

    but that's just me!

Think of it this way; everyday there are gay marriages. Spain, a Catholic country, has legalized gay marriage. Marriage is what you make of it, in today's society you can just go to a court house and be married through the law and not religion. Shouldn't everyone have the ability to be married through their county and all be equal? After all the Civil Rights Movement was over 60 years ago and equality is still an issue.

I support civil unions that carry all the same legal rights as "marriage". Isn't that good enough?
  • Metaldane Footage 2012/07/17 21:47:02

Not really first because separate but equal doesn't work that's already been proven in the past, also because not all agree the definition of marriage is between opposite genders and there are actually whole religions ok with it and it not being legal stops them from marrying their own members thereby stopping them from practicing their own religion.
  • Footage Metaldane 2012/07/17 22:10:58

If there are whole religions that believe in it, then they can get the civil union, and obviously still receive the marriage within their church.

Then why not force Christians to do the same? Otherwise our system is showing favor of one religion over another and atheists as well should be able to get civil marriages as marriage is not solely religious and not allowing them to is then showing favor towards religion over irreligion. Like I said separate but equal doesn't work
  • Footage Metaldane 2012/07/18 15:19:48

Well, first off, being gay is not a religion. But the bottom line is, I really don't care if there is gay marriage or not. I'm just trying to find a compromise that gives gay people all the legal rights of marriage without offending the religious folks. I will say this. It should be a state issue, not a federal one.
  • Metaldane Footage 2012/07/18 15:29:01

Well the main problem with your stance is it doesn't matter how some (mostly just conservative Christians and Muslims) religious folk feel this country isn't based on feelings but law and equality for all and under the law they are due secualr marriage. This fight isn't just about equal treatment but about stopping one group from pushing their values on everyone else which is un-American to the core.

A civil union is a secular marriage.
  • Metaldane Footage 2012/07/18 16:14:19
    Metaldane
No basically it is but it's called a union when it's just a marriage no reason to call it anything else goes into that separate but equal situation which never ends well.

Well, while I'm personally not opposed to gay marriage, it does represent a significant modification to a social standard that many people don't agree with. Any time such a change is made, I think it's wise to move forward in baby steps to allow society the breathing room it needs to accept such change. I do see civil unions as such a baby step. And I don't see that separate but equal never ends well, particularly when it's a means to end.
  • Metaldane Footage 2012/07/18 17:32:48
    Metaldane
I'm different I think society from time to time needs to be pushed just look at every time a major change has happend in civil rights from women getting voting rights to ending the separate but equal segregation of different races. Those victories weren't gained by polite legal action but by demanding equality. The same is merely happening now with other sexual orientations so people gotta pick a side.

Alright look, either way your denoting it to a social contract between two consenting adults.

Look, LG marriage is a social experiment, never before has marriage not been between man and woman, there have never been any historical exceptions. To change the def. would be changing the whole PRINCIPLE of marriage, which is childbearing/rearing (and yes I've heard the statement of infertility but it doesn't change the principle).
  • Metaldane DemonChild 2012/07/19 18:41:32
    Metaldane
Just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean its a bad thing and that "principle" of marriage is no longer universal and frankly some of the more traditional version are just wrong but this debate ain't changing any thing so I'm moving on later.

Well hey, give me a good reason that we NEED gay marriage, I said NEED. It was brought up by some people who thought it'd be fun.

It's called equality and technically no marriage is needed but it's a symbolic pact that is important to some people and that includes gay people. Now like I said bye.
  • DemonChild Metaldane 2012/07/19 19:06:49 (edited)
    DemonChild
And what's this equality based on? Is it politically incorrect not to change definition so everyones comfortable? Can gays still not marry their opposite sex? Do these marriages happen? Yes!

And your right! Marriage is symbolic, it doesn't show commitment, it shows principle!

How many times must this question come up? Homosexuals make up 1.7% of the population. It's amazing how people are fixated on such a small group of people. No, gay marriage is an absurdity. One and one do not all of a sudden add up to three.

I am against it. Marriage is between a man and a women. If they want to call it a Union or commitment ceramony, then that is fine. Let us married folks keep our traditional word.
