If the two involved are of consenting age and in a safe relationship, bugger off. It's no ones damned business.

At this point in time I see nothing wrong with it.
I will let you know next week if age really does or does not make a difference.

My husband is 19 years younger than I, we have been married for 11 years now.Nothing wrong with age as long as it's love that you have and not some other agenda like money. love

My husband is 10 years older than me and he is the only man I've been with that treats me with respect. I have a child with another man, and he treats that child as if he is his own. I love my Old Man!

All relationships based in mutual love and consent are approved by me, all of them. I am in love with love, seeing it makes me tear up and I have been known to get clingy. But people in love, it's just so cute, you just want to grab them and snuggle them :3

Its none of my business what other people do with their hearts.

However, to abide by this 1/2+7 rule, I could date a woman who is 28. Awesome! where do I sign up?

Only if your looking for a Father,or a Mother instead of a normal relationship! Usually the only time you see such a relationship is when there is money envolved, one has it,the other doesn't!

It is a private and personal decision and what anybody feels or thinks about it only matters in their own relationship. People have these funny opinions about how things should and should not be and I say fine, live your own life that way.

Rule of thumb: Half your age plus seven.

This is a fantastic rule that increases the rang of potential mates over time as the differences between generations and maturity levels become less important.

If you're a 26 year old male/female it means the low end of your range would be 20.

However, if you're 50 then your low end would be 32.

And for anyone that uses the stupid "age is just a number" line answer me this, as a 16 year old in high school would you have dated a 9 year old? No? It looks like age is more than just a number then.

Possibly. Just because I never felt the urge to, doesn't mean it was completely impossible. It is possible that someone may have come along who triggered my love switch and caused me to fall head over heels in love with her at a substantially lower age than mine, i don't know the probability but surely there is some chance that it could have happened. One of you sciency people back me up.

If a 16 year old loves a 9 year old then let them be. Hell I had a 9 year old crushing on me when I was 16 but I was chasing a 15 year old. But the problem with young aged relationships is that they don't truely know what love is. My sons two and he loves chasing women already.

Thats sort of my point though. First, you'd tend to have the 9 year old crushing on the older kid and not the other way around. But more importantly they don't know what love really is. And while child hood crushes are cute and harmless and can extend into early teen years it becomes an issue when that 9 year old becomes a 16 year old and gets interested in a 35 year old. Because, again, they don't really know what love is and what strength you need to have for a real relationship. It creates an uncomfortable situation of near idol worship on one side and exploytation on the other.

Honestly, my biggest concern is with teens and this issue because thats the heavily hormoned transitition period where real bad choices could be made.

So I think half your age plus 7 is handy.

The reason I say age is just a number is because at a certain point you'll know what love really is and if its someone older or younger it don't matter the age. Some people mature faster then others.

And the adult male whos mature and knows he's in love with a ten year old boy?

My opinion is that as a young person you need to be careful when an older person is interested in you. That issues becomes less and less a factor as you age.

Again, I care less about the 30 year old with the 50 year old than I do about the 30 year old with the 15 year old.

Well ofcorse the youngest needs to comprehend what their feeling are lol that's like saying a sixteen with a two year old. Now if the sixteen year old waited till the two year old was 20 then what's to keep them apart assuming the 20 year old shares the feelings.

Well obviously a 16 year old wouldnt date a 9 year old. What 9 year old dates anyway? The smallest age in an age gap relationship should be that which can accept it and actually can comprehend their feelings for someone.

Then there is the mathematical method. That is ,25 goes into 50 twice as many times as 50 goes into 25.

Women are less attracted to the physical attributes of a partner than are men and are attracted to "protection" features more than men. These relationships are not as abnormal as many believe them to be, but it's really none of my business anyway.

maybe - 5 -10 years is OK, but it really depends on how old the youngest in the relationship is.
17 year old dating a 30 year old... maybe not

There are a few examples of that - esp where the old man is very well-off! They both get something out of the marriage. She gets lots of money to play with and he gets to play at the one, two buckle my shoe. :))

Why is it people feel that it is quite offensive to pass judgement on gay relationships and quite acceptable to pass judgement on "suitability" that is based upon age? To those people who say that a wide age gap is somehow bad or wrong - have a good think about what you are saying.

If both are over the age of 18, then I see no issue with it. I have always dated older men, and my now-adult daughter is dating a man 11 years her senior. I would much rather see her with a man who is a bit more settled than with a boy her age who is mainly into partying.

Why did you pick 7 years instead of 5 or 10. Just asking. I'm asking because when I was 33 I dated a women who was 23. The relationship didn't last. I broke it off because I thought we were at different times in our life. I was more settled and moving on in life and she was just starting to hit the party scene.
