Do you return your shopping cart to an allocated/designated collection spot?

I have solved this problem by always walking IN to the store by taking a cart FROM the parking lot, usually near my car or sometimes even further from the entrance than my car. My husband says I am taking a job away from someone who has to collect these carts. But I think that is not a good job anyway. I don't want to get my car nicked by some careless person collecting the carts and getting too close to my car in doing so. I have even returned carts from blocks away from a store on one occasion. But, to confess, this wasn't to benefit the store.

I'm not that lazy. The people who don't are those lazy asses who wait 20min. for a car to move to get closer to the front door. Then 9 times out of 10 these are fat bastards that could use the exercise if they parked farther away and walked.

I usually take the thing back into the store unless I'm parked right next to the cart corral.

Of course why would I even consider making a low paid often long work day even harder for someone just because Im cant walk a few seconds further and put a cart away where it belongs.

I'm usually in so much pain by the time I finish shopping that I want to just jump in my vehicle a drive home, but I always take the extra 30 seconds to return the cart. That was my first job, chasing carts and bagging groceries, so I no how much damage the carts do to other cars, and how much work it is rounding up carts from all over the place. The comment below says that it's taking jobs away from others, but that's not the case. What your really doing is taking a baggar away from a checker, which in turn slows down the line. The stores don't hire enough people anymore. It's simple, just put things in their proper place and everybody wins.

when i shop at aldis you have to put a quarter in the lslot to get your cart so if you want your quarter back then you put the cart back. but i do most of the time at the other stores too. or i take it back in the store.

When they have 'cart collectors' within reasonable walking distance. If they have NONE in that area, I put the cart somewhere I KNOW IT WON'T ROLE FROM (like on a lot 'island').

Yes because not to do so is a jackwagon thing to do because there are employees whose job it is to take hose carts back into the store and when anyone just puts the carts anywhere the employee has to go all over the parking lot to retrieve them, even in rain heat freezing weather and snow, etc , so putting them into the cart return is the only right thing to do!

I don't like pulling in a parking spot, only to see someone has left a cart in the way. So I always put mine either back in front of the store or in the little corral.

You have to put a quarter or loonie(dollar) in your cart to unlock it in the first place so yes I always return the cart to get my quarter loonie(dollar) back from the cart.

Either in a cart collector or I walk it back into the store. Like some others on here, it really pisses me off to observe the laziness of many people. Leaving your cart blocking a parking space, banging it into the car next to you or just leaving it wherever you're finished with it just confirms my opinion that a growing percentage of our population doesn't give a damn about anything or anyone other than themselves.

Because that's what you're supposed to do. Most grocery stores have places outside to put the cart if you don't want to walk all the way back to the store.

There is nothing worse than a car door dinged by a shopping cart. Returning my cart to the designated location helps assure that I do not cause a ding in someone's car door. It also reduces the costs for the store as they don't need to pay someone to run around the parking lot.

On occasion, however, the designated cart return locations are too far from the parking, e.g., at Home Depot. In these cases, I may place the cart with its wheels on the grass or behind a curb so it will not roll.

And often take those left in empty parking spaces back also. It's really amazing that people are so lazy that they won't walk two or 3 spaces to return a cart to a collection spot. One day I was about to pull into a space when the young woman putting groceries in her trunk suddenly pushed the cart in front of me into the space (the cart return was diagonally across from where she was parked). It pissed me and I rolled down the window and asked her to put the cart in the return. Her husband came from around the car and yelled at me 'she just had a baby, give her a break.' Seems HE chose to put the baby in the car while SHE unloaded the shopping bags into the car. Of course, I couldn't keep my mouth shut and responded, "Well, you didn't, so you put in the return." He banged the hood of my ca, denting it, and then shoved the cart into the front of it, cracking my headlight cover. Seems he forgot that Wal-Mart has cameras all over and it was all caught on tape. He was not a happy camper when my insurance company went after his insurance company.

Actually, WM did because it was witnessed by an employee. Since it happened on private property and the couple had driven off, unless I wanted to come down and swear out an assault warrant they couldn't do much. I called my insurance agent and the police agreed to supply the identity of the vehicle owner who happened to be the couple (thank goodness not a borrowed vehicle). So I just let my insurance company handle it.

I had a 6 month old car dented by a runaway cart in a supermarket parking lot one time. I came out of the store just in time to see the cart rolling toward my car but I couldn't reach it in time. I'm sure other people there wondered why this crazy man was running across the parking lot screaming.

It is. I've noticed whenever I am returning a cart or even grabbing carts that aren't mine to return them or give them to the person who collects them, more times than not they are very appreciative. I can understand why.
