Do you resent authority?

No I don't, I was taught to respect authority.

I resent authority being wielded without temperament, sensibility or decorum.

Mutual respect from both sides is crucial. An unfair power structure is usually not respected but may be feared.

Only when people who have it abuse it, and sadly alot of them do!

Human beings on average can’t handle the power that comes with authority and so they wind up lording it over the rest and therefore abuse those powers for their own personal ends. All of the problems in this world can be directly attributed to such abuses and misallocations of these powers (most especially in Government, be it the Local, State or Federal level). Look around you.

I know personally that the absolute worst cases of these abuses of authority can be found in the classrooms of kids these days. For example, my Algebra teacher HATED me in High School because I used to ask and also debate fair and honest points regarding the subject matter and the theorems of the same that he didn’t agree with and which angered him because I wasn’t conforming to his concise rhetoric of the subject material (thinking for myself in other words), and for this and this alone he failed me in my final year, despite that my work was more than passable and that I never once over-stepped myself in my inquisitions. Because of him and this abuse of his authority over me and my grade, I was unable to graduate with a full Diploma. So you tell me… fair or unfair? Right or wrong?

That all said I realize the inherent NEED of authority. I just do not agree with it being freely given to those who cannot handle it and who should never be in a position to wield it.

I rarely resent them, except when authority exerts unnecessary control on me.

Only if they're doing a lousy job or obviously less intelligent than I am. I don't like being bossed around by idiots.

It depends on who and in what field. I will trust Hawking in the field of physics more than I would my own opinion and would not resent his authority. I resent people who claim to know the truth about something when they're simply offering opinions.

Usually, (just like with the negative people question), I just ignore authority. I don't usually confront it (in whatever manner it may be),.. simply sidestep and go on my merry way,..

I think that's why I'm a lawyer. I do tax law and I really do resent the authority of the IRS. I have seen it used arbitrarily and I have stopped it. I think most lawyers resent authority, unless of course they're judges who think they were divinely appointed.

You will never hear that from me. The food you eat, the car you drive, the house you live in,the clothing you buy are all safe or they are not around for long, because of our tort system. A deadbeat dad will go to jail for failing to support his children. You have good title to your home because of a title lawyer. We have a criminal system which while not perfect is better than anything out there. Now as for judges......................, that's another story.

I agree, but we have plenty of BS because of lawyers too. Everything equals out in the end.
