Think your handwriting is bad? Pretty soon, you might forget how to talk. Statistics from the Pew Internet & American Life Project show that many people with cell phones prefer texting over talking on the phone. (If you are young yourself or know any young people, this should not come as a surprise.)

Older people are starting to prefer texting, too, but the data shows that the younger you are, the more likely you are to prefer texting. "It is an art that's becoming as valuable as good writing," Janet Sternberg, a professor of communication and media studies at Fordham University in New York told The Associated Press.
However, there is a downside to all this typing. Sternberg has noticed that more students don't look her in the eye and have trouble having a simple conversation, which is kind of frightening. We've always kind of preferred e-mail as a happy medium between texting and talking, but we seem to be in the minority there. How about you?

Texting is good for certain situations tho...but it is way overused, and way to many use it to avoid contact...
On the cell phone, texting. Obviously in person or across the room, talking. :P
Let me e-mail you or IM you is more what I do these days : )
