If someones just being ridiculous there's not a whole lot you can do, but acting like an idiot while trying to make your point doesn't work very often. I usually try to be as polite as I can be until someone gets derogatory or condescending to me as a person. I don't like to have my intelligence insulted.

Present arguments, draw your reasons out. Don't just say your opinion if you really have no basis to back it up.

at this stage of my life, not a chance of changing my style..

surprising how many listed that they are civil on this site, when so many are fighting and name calling so often..

interesting how people view them selves and how it differs from how the world may view them... :)

most of the time, but sometimes people will reply to your posts and are so far off the topic and completely devoid of a logical train of thought, that debate is hopeless. This is usually accompanied by lots of caps and spelling mistakes, lol.

I have tried very hard to be nice. I even now avoid 'hot topics' unless I am really interested in a poll. But, most people out here would seem to fall under the 'never' heading, and in turn, it tends to bring out the worst in a person.

I'm honestly not sure I've ever name-called before (I think I might have asked if they were imbecilic or pointed out that they were making themselves look bad but I don't recall ever directly insulting someone). However, although I do try not to, sarcasm and satire are two things that are ingrained into my mind so I do slip up and use them occasionally.

I normally don't comment on other people's posts. If someone comments on mine and seems like they're willing to use etiquette, then I'll use etiquette also. If not and they are rude, I'll tell them that it's obvious they can't hold a civil conversation with someone whom they disagree and leave it at that.

i do my best. i dont like name calling or insults. i keep an open mind and remind myself that this is an opinion website, and we all have our own. i have name called when it has happened to me, though i kick myself later for sinking to that level.

My irritation is how easy it is to block someone who simply has a differing opinion from the posters. Once blocked, always blocked. Seems to me that a better solution would be to block for a week or a month but then it automatically expires. Some people would have an extremely long list to re-block.

I don't mind a55holes if they make me laugh. Some people tend to go overboard into moronic territory though...

I am usually polite and respectful. I can respectfully disagree, but if I see a rude comment that pretty much warrants a rude reply.
