.25 here and when you return you get .25 back.....makes sense.....keeps carts out of parking lot ALL stores should do it!

I've never been to any store that does this deposit and refund. However, when I go to Wal-Mart, I often grab a cart on the way in -- why not -- I'm going to want a cart, so why not just go ahead and take one from in the parking lot. There are almost always several sitting here and there that are blocking parking spaces because they weren't put in the cart corral.

this is a yes & no answer, we shop in couple of different stores & one particular store has .25 deposit slot that allow the shopping cart to unhook, once your done you put it back & connect the chain the the cart & you get the quarter back.. Keeps all the carts
in the front of the store..

I shop at Publix "where shopping is a pleasure". The bag boys, girls, men and women walk me to my car, put the groceries in the trunk and return the cart themselves....AND they are not permitted to accept tips.

and i noticed that in real hot or cold weather a lot of the quarters get left behind still in the machine but returned ....why would you take the cart back and not get your quarter back ? but dont worry none , the old fish is always willing to clean up after you .

I have. When I lived in Michigan and shopped at Aldi's. I think it's a good policy because:

1. Shopping carts rolling around the parking lot and damaging vehicles raises insurance costs.
2. Lost shopping carts (people deciding to take them home or make it their home) cost between $75 to $150. This cost would be passed on to the consumer.

Business owners need to protect themselves and until people quit stealing or not returning the cart to the corral, this is the way it goes.

I've lived in both California and Nevada and never saw where you had to pay. I've never heard of it before.. That would solve the problem of leaving carts all over.

No, I always walk my cart back to either the front of the store, or the cart return that are in the parking lots.

No, that would be a nuisance. No one steals the carts in my area. We have cart corrals so they aren't in the parking lot.
