Do you look down on people who work in fast food?

I was reading an article on Yahoo about how some resturants mistreat their workers, and some of the comments people made implied that anyone who works in fast food must be a high school dropout with no ambition or an illegal immigrant. That seems pretty ignorant to me. What do you think?

At least they are working and not living off the tax payers. A job is a job. I worked at McDonald's as a teen and was glad to have that job.

Admire people of all income levels that work, except for most sales/marketing, insurance, lawyers and parasite from others productivity.

As long as they look clean and are doing the best job they can...not all. Times are tough and jobs are even tougher to find...but when someone is sloppy and does a crappy job...yep but that applies to any job:)

I know what you mean. I went to a Burger Ranch and ordered food to go. While I was waiting the girl behind the counter put her BARE FOOT up on the counter to show the cook her new tattoo. I promptly ask for my money back and left. She tried to give me a hard time but I had taken a pic on my cell and showed her I was not playing and I would be calling the owner. Never been there again.

As a matter of fact, my brother, who is a successful business person, aspires to one day work in a fast food place. He believes they are perfect team workers and are constantly under pressure while working, a challenge for even the most seasoned person.

They have a job, they are working. I worked for both McDonalds and Pizza Hut to get money for school. Everyone should have jobs like that once in their lives, you learn a lot.

It is very ignorant for people to assume anything about those who work in the industry :p

All kinds of folks, highly educated, legal citizens, students, etc. etc. work these jobs,

and yes, I'm sure plenty of uneducated, and illegal ones as well, for that matter...

Just because it is 'fast food' does not mean it is less acceptable to do so ~

The food industry, in general, is a very challenging one, indeed, and

for the life of me, I cannot understand why it has to be that way ;(

I have HUGE respect for those who devote thier lives to it ;0 )

I would guess that you are likely misinterpreting what people say about fast food workers.
The only issue I have is with any fast food worker that expects it to be a career or to provide a "living" wage. In reality a "living" wage, bare bones, is about twelve bucks an hour with a MINIMUM of 40 hours per week. The fast food industry simply cannot sustain such a wage. I go to McDonald's because I can get my 20 piece or 4 plain double cheeseburgers for 5 bucks, and it is quick and convenient. If I have to pay very much more, then I will need an increase in MY wages. I suspect this is also very true for most people.

I don't see the reason to judge an individual by where they work, if they enjoy their job and are working to keep a steady income then there's no problem with that.
