Actually, medium with no pink. It's not that I mind the pink, it's just that burger is more susceptible to bacterial growth than steak since the tissue membranes are obliterated.

    Absolutely ..
There's nothing worse than making a good burger bad by overcooking it until it becomes the texture of Shoe Leather ..

(love a burger with a pink center and juicy .. )

I don't f**k around when it comes to ground beef, well done.

I fry my burgers like this: medium heat, cook one side until the juices on top of the burger coagulate, scrape the crud of the top of the burger, season and flip, season again, add cheese and remove when the cheese is melted. A perfect patty every time.

Ground meats should always be well done because any bacteria that settled on the meat was ground into it in the grinding process. Now even then interior needs to be heated to 180 degrees for a minimum of six minutes.

Very pink but not raw. The only way to eat beef.
I could eat a hamburger for dinner everyday. A good sized burger (ground chuck) rare, with lettuce, mayo and ketchup (Heinz- of course). Maybe chips on the side and a coke.

ground beef is dangerous if not cooked properly. It should never be pink, it has s high incidence of e-coli and other bacteria.

It should always be pink, any other way is not worth eating.

I have been eating it this way for over 65 years with NO health problems.

I also eat pork slightly pink, and lamb (grilled with garlic and rosemary) nice and rare!
  • Tiger Lily WGN 2012/12/17 04:42:45

Whether you have been eaating it that way or not, it is still dangerous. E-coli is dangerous and other pathogens can be deadly particularly in pork.

Pork carried parasites as well. All ground meat products are comtaminated with fecal matter. You have no idea what you are eating.

USDA does not have the authority to recall meat, every meat recall is essentially voluntary.

It's strange that cooking a steak well done ruins it but cooking a burger well done doesn't.

There is a stupid little secret to cooking a burger that is both fully cooked AND tender and juicy. You might already know it but here it is: cook the burger on one side (medium heat) and leave it until that side is fully cooked, then flip it ONE TIME and cook the other side, then take it off. Don't ask me why but flipping a burger more than once turns it into shoe leather.
