Do you like to cook?

the_old_coach 2010/06/06 16:52:16
I love to cook, though I'm no chef; however, I practice the craft and love to cook for friends. Do you? What do like to prepare? Do you worry about presentation?

I love cooking and I'll cook just about anything. I love looking up new recipes and then using my family and friends as guinea pigs...lol

As far as presentation I don't go over board trying to make it perfect but I do make it all look nice.

I love to cook, wich is good cuz i have crazy food allergies and i have to cook alot of stuff from scratch, just so i know its safe for me to eat.
i'm a total foodie, i insist on the best ingredients i can afford.
    drives some people crazy.

I'm sorry for your actual food allergies, but I see that you are eating healthier than most. Perhaps a blessing in disguise? I have other health problems that are also having me cook from scratch--which I do anyway--and now eat healthier (smaller portions). And there is NOTHING wrong with buying the finest ingredients! Hooray for you!

I sure do, but since I live alone the leftovers pile up in the fridge and I hate that.

I enjoy cooking .... I do virtually all the cooking at our house. I like to ' Swipe ' recipe ideas from some of the cooking shows and as I watch I'm always thinkin' to myself .... " Self, you could do this or add that and it would probably taste pretty good ".

I like to B-B-Q all sorts of stuff, I love to make roasts and gravy on my wood-stove in a dutch-oven during the winter as well as all kinds of soups .. free heat !

I like to make Italian dishes and any tomato based recipes are tomato's from my garden.

I get very creative .... how can I make this with the minimum amount of pots / utensils .... clean-up in not my forté .... do you load your dishwasher using extra ' foot - pressure ' to get more in ? ! ? !

i love cooking for myself, my boyrfriend and my parents because the don't complain, but unfortunately it seems that everytime i cook i put something in that my sister doesn't want to eat and that's all i hear about
i do enjoy cooking when she's not there though

although it's weird, i don't like cooking if someone's helping me, for me its a solitary thing so as soon as my dad offers to cut up vegetables or something i get annoyed
and i don't mean to but i don't know why
    haha
    it's weird but...
oh well, the important thing is that everyone loves my friend rice
    =D

The phrase "too many cooks spoil the soup" comes to mind. I dislike people in my kitchen when I'm cooking, and it is kind of personal. It's an art form, andI don't want people distracting me.

Your sister sounds jealous to me.

    my sister's just fussy
she only likes carrots cooked, not in salads
    she doesn't like mushroom
she likes peas but not beans
she doesn't eat broccoli if it's been steamed slightly too long
she only eats cauliflower with cheese sauce...

    the list goes on

my boyfriend is a bit the same with the list but he doesn't complain, he just picks the bits out that he doesn't want, which i'm fine with.

I love to cook. Being single after divorce doesn't allow me much scope for my culinary genius, however. My college age daughter moved back in when her dad left, but she's picky. I volunteer to cook at my son's a lot. His wife has asthma and is very allergic the the pets that reside at my place, so I have to go there, but I enjoy cooking a lot. I am finding that I may cook something for myself and freeze the leftovers into meal sized portions. I can eat these for lunch or dinner another time. I love to cook spaghetti, chicken parmesan (which my kids, including picky daughter love), twice-baked potatoes, and teriyaki (usually chicken or beef). I've recently discovered Thai food and made Peanut Chicken Satay recently. Funny after years of avoiding hot, spicy food, I found after my divorce that I needed a little spice in my life, so my cooking is much hotter and spicier than it was before.

Oh, and I never worry about presentation. I'm not cooking for a restaurant or for a cooking show. I want the meals to be healthy, balanced, and to taste good. Taste is more important to me than whether it looks like art on a plate.

I used to compete in 4-H cooking as a kid. I'd win, too, even at State Fair. But the pressure to get it perfect stressed me out, so now I just cook for family and friends. I'm a health nut, and while I may be a city girl at heart, I was raised in the country and make everything from scratch. <3

I only care about presentation when throwing a party. I like my palettes to be colorful; I balance warm and cool tones in every dish.
