Do You Lie About Your Weight?

How much do you weigh? 125 pounds? 150? Whatever it is, we have a feeling you're fudging it a little bit. According to a new study, most people lie about their weight ... even when they're just answering a simple survey, LiveScience reports.

weight

Believe it or not, people lie about their height, too. Men tend to overestimate their height by about a half-inch, and women by 0.33 inches, the study found, according to LiveScience. In fact, people in all ethnic groups claimed to be a bit taller than they were.

Under-reporting weight was common in all ethnic groups, but whites are more likely to underestimate their body mass index (BMI, or weight-to-height ratio) than black or Hispanic people, LiveScience reports. In fact, black men slightly overestimated their weight.

The thing is, you can lie about it all you want on a form ... but anyone with eyes can pretty much guess how much you really weigh. Do you ever lie about your weight? Or do you tell the truth, even when it hurts?

I'm almost back down to my pre-pregnancy weight of 160. My youngest is almost seven, though, so it's taken a little while. :-)

lol don't get too skinny! 160 for your height? Will start calling you slim or legs. That was my nic for my old neighbor that I grew up with. Still call her legs and she still and always has called me Polock because I am goofy:-)

Sometimes they do. Our self image can be different than the way others see us. Not saying that is true for you, just that it is for some people. Sometimes we are more critical of ourselves. My husband and family and friends all swear that I didnt need to lose any weight but I have lost 19 pounds and I still want to lose at least 5 more pounds because I have always weighed like 115-125 so when I got up in the 140's I felt like an absolute whale when in reality I was still within my range of normal, healthy weight and didnt look that much different to others.l They all said that I finally looked healthy. I did not agree.

No debating there. I'm very much aware that there are those who are their own worst critic, because I've been a major offender, myself. I went through a time where I struggled greatly with an image complex. I saw myself, as I wanted to, with blind eyes. Thankfully; I've learned to leave that part of my life behind, and am at a point of contentment.

    Why bother?

And who the hell cares? Why ever would it come up in conversation?

Anyone ask my weight that isn't an MD can pretty much kiss my fat ass. As in 'none of your freaking beeswax.'

Unfortunately for me, when I was in school it came up a lot - from the teachers. One wanted to calculate how much weight was pressing down on the second floor in just our classroom and the other wanted an aggregate of our heights and weights to see if we would make a healthy or unhealthy person if we were totaled up. In both cases, we had to share our weight to the entire classroom. Growing up fat and being tormented for it on a daily basis, I don't forget painful incidents like that.

The teachers were definitely going beyond their purview. How horrible for you. Makes me crazy when people do that. I know that must have been terrible. People are just stupid sometimes.

I was military so weight was known to a bunch for PT and BMI. Soon as I retired, so I retired that question as being out of bounds :P

7th grade in math class when the teacher wanted to tally our total weight to calculate floor pressure (the same teacher later on told us a good way to remember "acute" and "obtuse" angles was that thinner girls are considered "cute" so you could remember the angle was narrower...) and then in 9th or 10th grade when our English teacher (don't ask me how it relates to English - she did some kooky stuff) wanted to see if we would make a healthy person with combined weight and height.

That isn't fair. Also, I hear what youre saying about some people acting like just because someone is thin, especially a female, that they are nicer people etc. That is just their ignorant mentality showing and I would rather be fat than stupid. But it is also true that if someone is over weight they are likely at fault. Point is, to each his own and if you are comfortable with you then that is your thing but if we want to work to be healthier then that is ours. I do it because I feel less secure about myself if I let myself get heavy and it makes me unhappy and that reflects on everything and everyone around me. If working hard to feel healthy and happy makes me sanctimonious, then I guess Im guilty.

It goes from about 180-190, anywhere in there. I think BMI is considered overweight, but my body fat percentage is considered healthy.

I know when I left to train for the Army I weighed 127 and when I was done with training I weighed 146 but overall I was smaller. Even though I'm built with muscle, I'm classified as overweight. So I do lie about my weight.

Not intentionally at least. I don't weigh myself too often so I might be off a couple pounds.
