Gerd is caused by acid being sent back to the throat. It seems people like us seem to process food differently. I am 68 and I have had gerd since I was 13. I found that pork really aggravates it. You probably want to stay away from too much sweet sodas and candy. These seem to turn to acid faster. These things all bother me, but I can eat all kinds of hot peppers as long as they are no the dried shaker kind. In the 50s and 60s the only medicines they had were typically opiates. So, I did not get them refilled more than once and most of the time I would throw them away.
Now they have Prevacid, Prilosec, Nexium and Prontonix. Noenwork for me like protonix.

They can, spicy food can as well as caffeine and alcohol. Being over weight is a factor as well as it puts pressure on the stomach and forces fluids up the esophagus and asthma also complicate the problem. You should avoid aspirin, ibuprofen type products as well.

I think it is caused by political speeches. They expound with fatty lies, high carb, high calorie B.S. with no resolve to future problems, and the acid is compounded by blaming others for their inequities, no doubt about it that is the major cause of acid reflux. Turn off the evening news, cancel the paper and take a nice walk in the park and that should
help, Stay away from all political parties that dispense large amounts of horse manure and you should get better.

When your esophageal sphincter opens and acid is allowed to escape, partially the digestive juices in your stomach, and partially from certain foods one eats or from laying on the back or right side anywhere. Also, when you take pills without water or eat heavy meals at night before bed and lay down right away, you can get it. Try keeping your calories at 70 per hour or 180 every 2.5 hours or so, and sugars per serving: keep less than 5g whenever possible, don't eat Kraft Macaroni & Cheese and don't eat Skinny Cow round ice cream sandwiches. Eat low fat cheeses (if you like cheese) like Cabot 75% reduced fat or 1-2g fat mozzarella from Kraft or 4C. Sometimes Beethoven Classical Music helps. If you happen to start feeling a sluggish metabolism and are uncomfortably bored and your lips and eyes show it, you are likely to get it at some point of the month. In some cases, within 8 hours or so. Yet, this can occur in the bathroom or anytime your posture isn't quite right or from dry air or heat, or eating a medium meal in a room over 71 degrees. Magnesium helps. On occasion, acidophilus helps in supplement form, and ginseng can help. Sometimes, fruit juices are the culprit from their sugars and little to no fiber, and other times, you just have to stretch and exercise at times. Most people get rid of it via Rolaids, Prilosec, Pepcid AC complete; for some symptoms, maybe DayQuil, Acid Reducer, or Nexium.

My doctor suggest raising the head of the bed by 4 inches so that the fluid in your stomach will not migrate up the esophagus at night. It is a real help. It does take a bit of getting used to. I have never been told to change my diet as Anna has said, but I do take medication. There is a valve at the top of the stop of the stomach and mind is totally missing, and also have a high level of stomach acid as well.

google the term GERD. If the condition persists seek medical advice. Its curable and if not dealt with may lead to more serious esophageal problems.

This is what it was for me anyway. I saw 3 doctors. One shoved a tube down my throat and agreed with the other 2: "acid reflux". I tried Nexium and Previcid. Tey helped some but it didn't seem like they fixed the problem. My heartburn left when I quit eating wheat. I'm also lactose intolerant and found that certain types of grease (like fast food, not pork chops or anything like that), and food colouring seem to aggrivate the problem. The more fruits and vegeatables and the less processed food I eat the better I feel. Now I eat kimchee and other spicey foods with no problem. I'm not trying to be a Dr. and I'm annoyed by health food nuts, but I've learned what I know the hard way. Hope it helps, doesn't hurt to try anyway. Allergies also contribute. My stomache is always a little off (drainage) but when I visited Korea in January the mountain air cleared my allergies and for the time I was there I felt perfect. Their diet was much better also. I hope this turns out to be helpful, good luck.

It did thank you, I just realize that I had ate something fried today, it is not so much the heartburn but I just get this burning feeling at the back of my throat...it feels like it is a burning bubble trying to escape but can't...then it stops. It actually has been gone for a week or two, ate some fried chicken tonight and it now burns.. Only happens at night time..And I stopped eating fast food until yesterday and that is when it started back.
The tube thing sounds painful ...maybe not painful but unpleasant. Sorry.

No biggy. I just wanted to smack the idiot for constantly telling me not to gag. Don't give up on experimenting by cutting out different foods. Many doctors will tell you that even the food allergy tests are not all that reliable.
