the graphical aspects .. geometric ..
have wide-reaching applications in learning
(and I mean not only in the Math Department .. but also as a tool to teach Fine Art Students other ways of looking at things .. )
It was with curiosity indeed ..
I was familiar with Escher from some time ago ..
(mathwise) ..
when I took the 2D Design Course at the local College ..
the Students ..
already well versed in such things that I'd never had an opportunity to explore or learn
(for example .. freehand sketching of portraits)
when it came to the Geometrics of Escher
(which was one of the exercises)
they couldn't do it ..
within even the very LIMITED context of the Professor's only requirement of the pattern repeating just 27 times on the 11x14 surface .. (tessellations)
(I just did whimsical cuts .. and did far more than this .. including shading/limiting coloration to two shades .. which is what the assignment was for)
then the same was required with a geometric shape ..
(you were required to resize .. proportionally .. your shape in patterns .. but certain conditions had to be followed)
most couldn't even do this for 10 repetitions ..
but having taken the shape I did ..
I was able to get several hundred repetitions on the 11x14 surface ..

I encourage all who go into graphical/fine arts .. to take advanced math courses ..
especially those spatially related ..
so that you can better appreciate your subjects of your artworks ..
It also comes in paving moulds!!!!
