I've been on rollerskates, but like all activities where your feet move by themselves, I well and truly suck at skating. It looks like great fun, but I am absolutely convinced that I will die. Even though I actually do understand the physics, and I know that I am more stable as I go faster, and I know that I cannot have a problem with that crack in the sidewalk that is approaching, I also know deeply in my gut that I am going to hit that crack, it will grab my skate, and I will crash and die.

    I'm afraid I'm hopeless.

I used to go roller skating all the time with the youth group at my church but it's been years since I've done that. I know the mechanics of it but I don't know if my old legs would stand up to the strain anymore.

I love it, one of my favorite forms of exercise, though given the choice I would rather have blades

................I was a novice roller skater, when I was a kid, .......... I wouldn't even attempt such activity now, especially with my physical disability, and my actual age..........

Although I haven't been roller skating since my children were young, at that time I picked it up again easily after about 15 yrs. after I had skated on a regular basis. I remember how proud I was when I learned to skate backwards! I had my own skates and skated weekly from elementary school through Jr. High. After I started driving I only went skating occassionally.

In the 60's just about everyone had those metal skates to attach to your shoes, so that's what you would do for hours on end. Then in the 70's the favorite jr. high and high school activity was to go to roller rinks. It was great fun, much more fun than roller rinks now (where most people can't skate). I can skate backwards but feel more comfortable going forward.

No problem. I still love to skate, when my nieces or daughter would have a skating party, I'd be one of the few grown-ups to skate. Although, it's scary now because they don't monitor the rinks like they used to and most of the kids couldn't skate. A few years ago, I got roller blades for Christmas (at about age 46) and skated a lot around parks and stuff. I haven't skated for awhile because I broke my finger at the knuckle (a dog walking accident) and had to have surgery. I am afraid to reinjure it. I've got to get a glove or something and start that and tennis again. I know, tmi.

Yeah, now because no one knows how to skate. Gosh, in the 70's most people at rinks could skate really well and they had monitors that would say "slow down" and stuff like that. Anytime I've been with my daughter or nieces I'm looking around like crazy so some kid doesn't knock me down. The only time I fell on roller blades was on a track in a park, roller blades brakes are on the back and on roller skates they're on the front. So skating uphill my rear brake hit and I fell backwards. My palms and wrists were completely black for like a week. So yes, it can be dangerous.

Was this recent? Yeah, now I think you're taking your life in your hands at a skating rink. In the good ole days, it was a lot easier. I hardly ever fell and never bled anywhere. I used to think that was the worst, to see someone fall and bleed everywhere. I'm glad you're okay and be careful!

I have not done it in more than forty years and would not attempt to skate backward at 67 years old.

I used to be very athletic. I skated, swam, bowled, ran track, played baseball, basketball and volleyball. Haven't done much of any of it lately

Good Lord yes. I practically lived at the skating rink during junior high and part of high school. Forward, backward, waltz, two-step, kick-spins - I can do them all and totally amazed my granddaughters when we went skating. :)

I use to do roller skating routines as a kid and teen. I loved it! I still have fond memories and can still skate pretty well.
