Do you know how to properly hang the American Flag vertically?

I have no idea, and if someone gets their knickers in a twist about it then they have more problems than worrying about the way a flag should be hung.

I'm sure someone would be forgiven for a laps in etiquette if it were unintended, I have sung national anthems out of respect for which I had only a passing knowledge, which was appreciated by those at the time.

To take offence at the trivia rather than the intent is rather a mean spirited attitude, to fly ones countries flag is an affirmation of your love of your country, so to have it scrutinised technically is irrelevant as we are dealing with peoples beliefs, and geometry has little to do with it is all I'm saying.

I disagree. Improper flag flying is indeed disrespectful, and shows that you don't care enough to simply look up flag etiquette.

And how is it mean spirited? There is a proper way to hang up an American flag, and to not care about that proves that one is nothing more than a schmuck.

When I hang an English flag on St. George's day, which I always do. I am showing I am proud to be English, and British, which I most definitely am. If I chose to display it in which ever orientation I desire it is up to me.

This is because I live in a free country and can do as I please as regards displaying my countries flag on my own house, on my own land, and no one has the right to interfere. If anyone has a problem with that it is not my concern, and neither should it be.

Of course you can do what you want, but it's good to have proper etiquette. You wouldn't go to a fancy dinner and eat like a pig, would you?

I'm not looking for an argument, your point is as valid as mine. I just happen to be of a different opinion which is not surprising as I come from a country replete with pomp and circumstance, deluged with etiquette of every conceivable nature, of which we were subjected to from a very early age.

It was intended to promote class division and to maintain the status quo. Thankfully now no longer prevalent in my county. Most take such antiquaries with a pinch of salt now, and rightly so as they have little relevance in a modern society.

I can see where he might get that idea, since it would make more sense just to turn the flag 90 degrees rather than flip it.

They light your cigarette better if you hold them horizontally. Vertical is a fire hazard.

I hang two 3' x 5' flags in my window as curtains. The tops of the two fields meet in the center.

But if you look at the flag from the other side they are on the left. Depends on what side of the flag you are standing on.

When you hang it up vertically, like against a wall or something, the stars are on your left, like this:
