Leigh wants to be a vet _tech_, like an animal nurse. She thinks that vets don't get to spend enough time with the animals. *grin*

Way cool. *grin* Does Rutgers have a Vet program, or just pre-vet... and what, if anything, do you want to specialize in?

Just wondering.. one of my wife's teachers has a large animal practice, which would farm animals like sheep, cows, horses, pigs, etc., but he only works on cows and horses. He told the class that there was good money in large animal medicine, and a shortage of vets. Other vets would be "small animal" which covers dogs and cats, and "avian and exotic" which covers everything from "pocket pets" to birds to reptiles to ferrets. *grin*

WELL THAT BECAUSE COWS CUT MORE TO HEAL THEM AND LIKE THEY R USED AS A PRODUCE TO SO THE OWNERS WOULD DO ALOT MORE FOR A MONEY MAKER AND ALSO I THINK THAT Y THERE IS NO VETS FOR THE PRACTICE IS CAUSE LIKE MORE OF LIKE ANIMAL LOVERS U SEE EVERY DAY DONT REALLY CONSIDER A FARM ANIMAL AS SOMETHING U CAN LOVE LIKE THERE IS NO PERSONALITY TO IT SO Y HELP THEM OUT JUST MY OPION

I agree about them being a money maker, but there's something else... many dogs and cats can be obtained for FREE or for next to nothing from a shelter. Horses and cows are EXPENSIVE in comparison. You spend the money to protect your investment. *grin*

Nothing makes me madder than people who won't take proper car of their pet just because it they got it for free when they can get another one cheaper than what the vet charges.

I know horses have a personality, but I don't know anybody with cows.

She wanted to specialize in exotic animals, like ferrets, and/or reptiles.. but that could change by the time she has finished going to school. She's still not sure where/what she wants to apply for when she graduates. It's AMAZING just how many different fields of animal medicine there are! *grin*

ALL of the basics, IMHO more than enough to work at a clinic. Not enough to graduate or test for certification however... I couldn't believe how much they try to teach since they aren't vets, more like nurses. She told me "I don't think nurses for humans have to learn as much... considering they only deal with one species." *grin*

(My contribution is sitting through hours of Animal Planet with her.) *grin*
