what does she like to do? Is she a tomboy or girly-girl? nail polish, makeup, soccer ball, bb gun, stuff like that. oh and gift cards too. im an 11 year old girl and i would like all of those!!!
This might not sound personal but girls love to shop for clothes. Find out where your daughter buys most of her clothes. Give her a gift certificate so she can buy what she wants to.
I've got a proven track record of committing some pretty embarrassing gift atrocities. so I'll stay well out of this one. for your sake. and the girl's.
11 yrs old is a really tough age because it's past that little girl stage but not quite the teen stage. It depends upon what she already has, of course. If she likes to read, a Kindle (or comparable) would be nice - and give her a gift card so that she can order whatever books she wants. If she does not have an iPod, that would be a very cool thing to give her - and include an iTunes gift card so she can order her music.
My daughters are both grown but, to this day, I do the same thing I did for them when they were younger. I take them shopping, find our what they really want, sit down and get them lunch and talk. Then, I would take them home, go back to the mall/store and get what they wanted that I could afford, have it beautifully wrapped, get a card, and Voila Ici! You are king. ; )
Be very careful about NOT getting "gender specific" (I hate having to use those words) toys/gifts as you may be making huge assumptions. People got me barbies because I was a girl (now grup) and all I wanted was a Tonka Truck and Hotwheels. LOL I, finally, got two really cool metal large Tonka Trucks (Dump Truck and Backhoe) on my 40th b-day - from none other than my beloved husband. ; )
Did I mention that I served my birthday cake with the backhoe? LOL It was so childish and so much fun. My family members laughed. My friends thought I was just weird. LOL!
I still have those trucks and am ready for when/if I ever have grandchildren. I will, finally have an excuse to build that really nice sandbox and go out and play with the grandkids and then their trucks. ; )
I'll have to revisit this thread later and show you MY trucks. LOL! I love the pic, btw! Awesome. Oooh, I just thought of something - and this is a completely a side move...
You could do something like S & S suggested and maybe take her to a renaissance faire. Do some research and see if there is one in your area. We live near and go to the PA Renaissance Faire every year and have a blast. There's so much to do and see. The entrance fee is around $30, I think... worth every penny. If you have a little to spend, there are all sorts of neat things to purchase and the foods are unbelievable. You could spend time with her, expose her to something she has never done before, get her something she likes... and she gets the whole day. You can even plan a birthday party there. It's what my family is doing for me this year. I wanted to do it for my 50th b-day but had a stroke just three days before.. We had everything all set and it was not to be. So, this year - we will so be there! So anyway, just another idea!
Non expensive jewelry (necklace etc) When i was that age I loved playing with my hair, but I liked reading too...maybe a gift card to Claires or another little girlie shop like that
if shes a little bit of a redneck girl like me get her a cowboy hat if shes not then I just don't know when I was 11 I got a new cowboy hat, a new pair of boots, jeans and nice cowboy shirts
For my 11th birthday I got an adorable blanket, 3 wii games, a phone and my first mascara and foundation.
If she can wear makeup that's something she'd like and if you honestly don't know you can give her some cash
Preteens and young teens love Taylor Swift and Justin Beiber. Those CDs /posters would probably be a safe bet. She's probably starting to experiment with sparkly hair accesories and funky sunglasses.
When I was eleven, I liked clothes, simple makeup (eyeshadow, blush, lip gloss), accessories, and music.

Good luck.
