Seriously, why do people do this?? It's ugly, makes weird sounds, and didn't you buy the couch so you'd have a COMFORTABLE place to sit?

I have no idea. Ever sit in one covered with plastic on a hot day with shorts on? Rips the skin right off the back of your legs or it gets really slimy from sweating. A lot of older people used to do it.

I can understand putting some kind of cover over an old piece of furniture to make it look better. Keeping furniture covered with stuff to protect it; just no.

I had an aunt who used to keep the plastic on her lamp shades and had plastic runners all through her house. lol...

I do recall visiting some relatives who kept plastic on stuff too, including a couch. Lol, indeed.......
I always wonder what people are saving things for, if they aren't going to enjoy them. In the meantime, I have been guilty of putting tin foil on the corners of furniture, when I discovered that the cat I agreed to take in was chewing on the antique tea carts and my deceased mother's desk.

The tin foil on the corners of furniture was a temporary determent measure, and it worked. I wasn't there to stop dear Elsa from crunching on and destroying the furniture when I was at work. I would not have cared if company saw it, though.

I've heard of dogs who like to chew on baseboards and furniture. My dog companions have only chewed up shoes, once in a while. Not uncommon for a dog, especially a puppy. Before Elsa (the born free kitty) , I've never even heard of a cat chewing on wooden furniture. She is quite the unique cat.

I've never seen the sense in stopping stuff from getting on your sofa from time to time by putting stuff on your sofa all the time.

Apart from resale value at it's finish for you, it's devalued as a nice comfortable sofa all the while you have it.
