I have used many blankets to cover someone going into shock after an accident, or wrapped around myself when my car has broken down, or even used as a traction device when stuck. I always have a blanket and a warm, dry change of clothes, a (foldable) shovel and strike anywhere matches and firestarter. Crappus happens, and I was a Girl Scout...I is prepared!!

In a cold place such as where I live I keep a couple of "space blankets" in my car. They fold into a very small package about the size of a pack of coffin nails but are quite warm.

Actually .. I keep blankets and Beach Towels in my Vehicle all year around ...
(never know when you might need them .. and towels are great to put on the seat so that folks don't get dirt or wet on the seats too).

    Oh Hula girl.

    Perfect timing.

We are parched here in the Oregon Highlands, no rain for the past couple of months, can't even start up a chainsaw without risking a forest fire. In the past two days the temp has dropped to the thirties and the clouds are really thick. Very little rain so far but could be in the next day or so.

Surely snow by the end of the month.

    And you wave beach towels!

    Oh! Oh! Oh!!

Yes I do. It gets cold and icey here and I live out in the country. If I have car trouble, I want my mommy blanket to keep me warm. My Mom made it out of old wool clothes.

I've been told kitty litter works when you need traction.

I've been fortunate not getting stuck in snow or on ice. I bought these two pieces of what looks like mesh grating to put under my tires if I need traction. I have no idea if they work, but they take up almost no room since they're flat. Hopefully, I won't need to find out. :)

They do work! In fact, they are wonderful! I've used a friends pair and I'd like a pair myself.

No, but I have a pair of them in the car as well. Bought a brand new pair of EMS tubulars with poles and carrybag for $5 at their tent sale.

Yep. I remember one time last winter when I needed kitty litter for the kitties, it was sold out. I figured right away that was why. People cleared out the ice-melt and salt supply and started in on the kitty litter. I said as much to the cashier, and she was surprised....apparently it hadn't occurred to her. LOL.

I'm not sure where I read that tip. The good part about kitty litter is that it weighs a lot less than a sandbag.

You know what I like to do, I'll buy knitted or crocheted afghans from a thrift store....it doesn't matter if they are butt-ugly brown/burnt orange/olive green affairs, you might not want them added into your home decor, but they are so excellent for keeping a person warm.
