Sister Jean 2012/07/12 20:58:16I offer money for a hot drink

i could bring a blanket back, though!
But I'm 14, so I haven't...
But I will!
Sometimes a person just wants to have human contact, a smile to get through their situation.
One year during our Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless at the shelter, I helped a coworker pass out pamphlets with information to those we served.
After I handed the info to one man he commented to me that it was nice to see someone smile and look at them in his face, instead of looking away.
Sometimes all it takes is a smile to make a persons day.
...it's sad to me that so many suffer. I wonder what's to be learned from it, and who's to do the learning?
I've lived out of my truck, a shelter, and even a tent under a bridge (until the cops ran me off). I count myself very blessed to be in the position I am now. I can afford to help others out so why shouldn't I? Even a small gesture can mean the world to someone that has nothing.
I volunteer when I can.
If I had a blanket on me I'd give that away too. I'll never forget the time a homeless man gave me his blanket when I was stranded and freezing on a cold night in Seattle... it would just feel right to do the same if I could.
