It's a good habit to get into IMO. Returns often require a receipt and they can help you create or maintain a budget ... some may even be useful for tax purposes.

fist a lot of store wont take something back without a receipt second I keep them to match to my statements and lastly because you may find an unecpected deduction if you look hard enough

I throw them in a cardboard box and then seal it at the end of the year and mark it with that year and it goes in storage somewhere.

I digitize my receipts, the ones I need to keep the originals of, I file away at hand for a year, then I move them to my business storage locker.

Yes all the time I have receipts in wooden boxes from 10 years ago . Electrical gadgets hate me they just go wrong , I bought an electric blanket 1 day later its not working .
TVs , microwaves , portable dvd player and I could go on . So yes I do keep my receipts and all the boxes that the items came in go up in the loft .
