Mother's Day is almost here, and to celebrate we wanted to give mothers a chance to discuss familial Facebooking, and how social media plays into parenting. Should moms "friend" their kids on Facebook? Do their kids even want to be friended? What do people really think about parents who make Facebook pages for their babies? Do families hide things from each other online? And don't forget, we have demographic breakdowns to shed more light on the answers to those questions.

yeah, there are things that i hide from my mom (only cause it's embarrassing) but she usually doesnt care anyway so i dont worry about it.

I'm surprised the hiding things from parents people don't have a majority. They seem to have a large majority - 57 % - among just 18-24 year olds. Maybe older people have parents that are either deceased or too old and feeble, so they have no need to hide. I think most people will need to hide at least some stuff from their parents during their lifetimes.

I do not need to hide things from my parents.Thye are gone,but I do want to hide some things from the brothers.I want to have fun in my life,but what I do for fun is not fun for them. And they get mad. But I do not care,but then I do not want to hear them gripe.

Everyone is entitled to privacy. Kids deserve to remain innocent as long as possible; parents deserve to have a little bit of the adult world for themselves if they so choose. Personally, my folks can't handle all that goes on in my head/world. Why subject myself to the anxiety & annoyance? This way I can be who I am & they can go right on seeing me only as they wish to see me. Everyone get a little peace & I do as I please w/out the headaches.

i find myself being more careful on facebook due to the large amount of family i have as friends but that basically means not swearing.
i have some very religious family members and i have no problem with posting my atheist views as a status update, its who i am and they respect me for it.

Of course . I'm now a Highschool kid and when you are a highschool kid, you sure have many things to hide from your parents. My relationship is undoubtedly a great example when it comes to hiding things from my Dad and Mom.

I hide things from everyone. Not anything bad, like porn. I'm just very private and my computer contains virtually my entire personality, based on pictures I've saved, conversations I've had with people, things I've typed up, videos I've watched etc. I don't tell anybody about anything I do or anybody I talk to. Just secretive by nature.

God yes! I hide a lot of my posts, photo albums, and comments from my family. I make sure to check the privacy for every post and have defaults for automatic posts hidden from them and certain friends of the family.

But most of the time I just don't say anything at all. I'm not worried about pictures getting around. I don't even hide anything from my parents, they are pretty chill. However, I have a pesky aunt who reads everything I post on Facebook and runs back to tell my grandparents or tells me not to post certain things because "young eyes are watching". I think at some point in her life she forgot that I am not a child anymore. I got sick of it, so I just make it to where she and a few other family members she gossips with can't see my stuff.
