I don't care too much for Turkey (unless it's turkey breast lunch meat), so if I cook for Thanksgiving it's ham.

We've always had both. We also always have both sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes, and usually stuffing as well. We haven't had a Christmas dinner in a few years, but when we do it's prime rib. And ALWAYS pumpkin pie with real whipped cream. Cool whip and redi whip are lazy and a disgrace to good pie. Everything is cooked with real butter, not oleo, and real butter is served in a butter dish for the rolls.

Funny, the first one we had here in okieville with my brother's inlaws, "You can't have both!!! That's un-American!! What the hell do you need ham for?!!!". And then come Christmas with the rib, and basically the same thing. Of course that second Christmas, they couldn't wait.

LOL! I am really surprised at how many people have said basically that and worse to me on this poll because of me preferring ham. Didn't know it was all that serious! ;-)

Seriously, it's their loss. Ham is good for Thanksgiving, it's good for Christmas, Easter, Sunday dinner, 4th of July, Breakfast, Lunch, middle of the week, in split pea soup, boiled up with a pot of dried Lima beans, cold out of the fridge as an anytime snack. You take a good Virginia ham, cut the diamonds in the fat, stick a whole clove in each diamond, cover it with pineapple slices, baste it with brown sugar and butter, I ask you, how can that NOT be good for Thanksgiving dinner? And having a wonderfully roast turkey right next to it? How in the world is that wrong. Seems to me more like that is everything that is right in this world, especially if you get to share it with family. Poor, poor, poor blind fools. Fools I tell ya, fools!!

Yes they do, there were 13 of us growing up and several adopted throughout the years, plus the neighbourhood kids. Now it pretty much stays empty. They're selling it and moving to Hawaii next year so this will be the last year that we will get together at the parents house.

and while the birds are at 48 cents a pound I will STUFF my freezer with 5-7 of them...too good a deal to pass up and I will make one every 6 weeks or so...right now I have 5, but one I am doing for my hubby's staff party on the 20th...and my nephew gave me 15 lbs of venison so its starting to become a challenge to get another couple in...but I can always jump on the lid
