Nearly 44 percent of American households are one emergency away from financial ruin. That means they don't have enough savings to cover basic living expenses for three months if something unforeseen happens such as losing a job or falling sick, according to a recent study by the Corporation for Enterprise Development.

Almost a third of Americans have no savings account at all. "These families have had to prioritize today's expenses over tomorrow's goals," said Andrea Levere, the group's president.

I personally don't have a job at the moment and what I have to my name wouldn't last 3 months. My fiance on the other hand (other than games and a couple splurges) has saved up his money since he enlisted in the Army. So we could easily live for 3 months lol.

The current admin is a finacial mess. I was doing great under Bush and the last 2 years have been a wreck. I am employed no problem but my money does not stretch the way it did.

We are also in very bad moment in Spain but 3 months... come on!
I sleep worse than usually because of the fear... but I could not sleep at all if I didn´t have at least one year savings. Actually, if I didn´t have it, I would emigrate wherever to find a job and earn a living.
