I tend to do the protecting but if there was someone who protected me at a time it was my Mom. Past that it would be just me. Which is fine and maybe some non-physical "others" :)
I have a boyfriend who I believe very, very strongly would (and has) defend and protect me. But I am very aware that help may not always be there. It is foolish to think that there is one person (unless you are religious, that's all yours! No intent to offend here) who will always be there, or one that can, really. Even if your lover/best friend/protector of other sorts wants to always be there or tries their hardest, it's not always possible.
If we allow ourselves to put off all sense of self-preservation on another, then we are screwed if disaster strikes and we are left to defend ourselves. I know I can defend and protect myself if need be.
That being said, it is also foolish to trust nobody and try to handle everything on our own. Life will throw unknown pains and dangers at us, but if all we have is ourselves to rely on, then we end up hurt anyways.. or very lonely. I think it's important to have somebody to lean on when we need it. But they shouldn't carry us everywhere we go.
Name is God, just God, the rest were not very reliable although I have millions of well-wishers at a distance who work with me and for me. In reality just God.
I could protect myself, but I have my boyfriend Skyler (aka Skysky) to protect me. I love him with all my heart. If someone even tried to hurt him, (well I'm not going into specifics but let's just stick with the thought it might hurt them quite a bit. lol)
I don't know what I would have to be defended against. I can remember once being out with a boyfriend ( I was very young at the time) we were in a group and some of the young men used some pretty raw language. My boyfriend stepped up and said, "Hey you guys. Watch you mouths I have my young lady with me." i thought at the time that was chivalry. I never forgot it.
Along with my Smith & Wesson M&P; 40c.
