Yes, most of the time.
Sometimes.
Only on holidays.
We rarely if ever have dinner that way.

Though it's pretty awkward sometimes because no one really says anything. Just a moment of silence...

It's alright! We just really don't have anything to say most of the times and when we do we never leave the table until the conversation is over.

I used to when there was a wife and six kids in the house. Gave me a chance to find out how everyone was make sure there was no crazy disease running rampant through the school that sort of thing. Not to mention I LOVE sitting and talking with my kids. All I want is for them to visit me... after I get this place shipshape.

We don't have an eating table at our house because we've been renovating for quite some time, so the only time we sit down at a table for family dinners are during holidays or birthdays because they're at someone else's house.

From birth until I moved out of my parents house my family sat down to dinner every single night. It may have been one of the smartest parenting decisions my parents made while raising us. It kept them in contact with us kids even during those teen years when it's very easy to become distant. Even as children we were expected to be part of the conversation, which ranged from discussions about movies and books to arguments about politics. My brothers, who are all married with children of their own now, also have family dinners with their families.

Often we are not all there, but whoever is home will sit down at the table and eat together. Then we play family card games. It's very nice.

It depends somewhat on whether we had a sit down lunch, but relationships are built on doing things together and dining is built into our lives.

Yeah, it's just me, my husband, and our four-year-old, and more than half the time he's not home from work yet when she and I eat. I kind of feel like eating dinner in at the table is a better way for larger families to connect, but when you're family is so small, it's easier to connect in other ways.

It's how children learn table manners. So far, they are doing just fine. No, we aren't rigid about manners, but basic rules ( talking with a full mouth, etc) are in place. It's also the time for sharing how everyone's day went. No TV and no phone.

Table sharing is a powerful family bond time.

My family and I sit down to dinner together as often as possible. My husband works a varied schedule so sometimes it is not possible. We always enjoy it when we do. I have some great recipe suggestions for family dining on my new hubpage. It is free and growing daily. Please check it out if you are interested. http://beccacooling.hubpages....
