Yes. I use to be one. I know how it feels to just do ur job, told be nice to everyone while being ignored like your job lowers you somehow.

...not very often...I live alone and don't buy much, and I usually use the 20 item-or-less self-checkouts, so I don't deal with them much..

Yes, if they are friendly and show an interest in talking to me. Some of them are really stuffy and unfriendly but others are nice. I try to keep in mind that some people may be having a bad day.

I think you should at the very least do the polite thing and say hello and ask how they are doing. I hate to see rude customers who ignore the clerks and don't even acknowledge them or talk on their cell phones the whole time they are being waited on. The same can be said for clerks who gossip with each other and ignore the customers. Everyone deserves a little common courtesy and it is a two way street.

I come from blue collar, we can relate to one another. I may not find a great conversation with a wall street banker but most hard working folks I have no problem talking with.

Sometimes,but a very short like 5 minutes. From time to time, the clerks once learn that I cannot hear, they'd ask me how I became deaf, or telling me they know little sign language. I answer brief ones. I don't like to keep another customer waiting in the lines at the cashier.

Just short ones ..
(Normally .. when I get to the grocery it is the monthly stock up trip .. so I'm always exhausted and already dealing with a big list of items .. and don't much feel like conversation nor struggling to try to figure out what is missing from the purchases and if I can get those other items on the way back to the home)
