I gave up on my dad years ago.

I try periodically, but it is pretty much a lost cause. He exists ONLY for his wifes kids, and grandkids, his own kids and grandkids do not mean a damn to him.

So, no nice songs for him.

I had a very rocky relationship with my Dad, so I can empathize. Last night I had a dream, in it he and my Mom were still alive and going on a date. Weird. Probably dreamed it because of this poll.

My parents divorced in 1976, and have BOTH been repeatedly guilty of traumatizing us.

Him by ignoring us in favor of his wifes kids-ALWAYS the step kids are preferable. And the birth mother by ONLY choosing to acknowledge the oldest of us 4 girls, which was by a different dad, and my dad adopted her, and raised her after the birth mom left. I am 47, and STILL feel very rejected by both of them.

We've probably had similiar life experiences. I have six sisters, 3 brothers, one adopted brother. All of my sisters, save one is older than me. My sister that is 3 years older than me, is the only sibbling I have that shares both the same Mother and Father as me. Weird huh?

This song will always remind me of the "little talks" my Dad had with boys whenever they came around me. He scared some so badly I never saw them again, and if I did, they went the other way!
