It is an indicator that there is something wrong with the society.

It makes me sad and feel sorry for them but it also makes me more grateful that I have somewhere to live.

It's a disgrace that in this day and age there are still people living on the streets. :(

It depends on how they got homeless... I useally split them up in 3 kinds of people.. 1.Some people just have bad luck in their lives, and for those people i find it sad.. to lose everything they been working for there whole life.. 2.There also fake homeless people... These are the people that beg for money but don't necessary need it, or maybe don't need it at all. And 3.The people that did lose everything but, because of there drug or alcohol addictions.. Hard part is i can't tell the difference between them... I would love to help the first kind of people i just don't know if... they are first kind of people.

Count your self lucky that you dont have any addictions. Society controls the price of adictive drugs including alcohol.

Of course, what human doesn't hate to see homeless? I thought the situation was bad back in 2010 when I worked for the census and saw so many homeless, families with children living in turned over dumpsters, tents and campers along the river, people living under bridges, in foreclosed homes. The situation was terrible then, and it's even worse now. Thousands of children in our school systems are homeless, the food they get at school all they get to eat. Even more terrible is that most of these people are decent, regular people, most of them that I met were victims of job outsourcing, their jobs gone with the closed manufacturing plants. We have several Obamaville tent cities under several of our large bridges. Some work low paying part time retail jobs, all they can get while companies hedge on hiring full time because they don't know what is going to happen with Obamacare and the economy. Some have had their hours reduced to part time and they haven't been able to find another job to pick up the loss. At the soup kitchen my wife and I volunteer at I sometimes see people I knew from where I once worked, the place now closed and the work sent to Pakistan. It's a sad situation, I don't know how to solve it entirely, but I don't believe it needs to be as bad as it is. I...

I see them somewhat differently now than I did before 2010, now I know their stories, I know how quickly and easily it can happen to anyone, and I feel blessed. I see them and think, there, but for the grace of God. Remember them this Thanksgiving, take a turkey to your local kitchen.

I don't laugh, criticise, or look down on them. Because I know that karma deals a heavy blow. So I try to help where I can. Even if its just feeding them, volunteering at a soup kitchen, or buying warm socks and things.

If that is your reasoning then you still need to be dealt the blow \. you should not have these bad feelings because you understand. You sound like you re doing a good job though.

There are now more homeless people in NYC than before WW2. Most are women and their children. The temperature outside today is in the 30's.

Though to be honest, some homeless people are the happiest people I know.
I have a woman a block from me who we give our leftovers to.
    She loves the neighborhood.

She sleeps in a homeless shelter.

LOL, I always know when I cook something good or not because she'll tell me. She's my hardest critic. :)

Knowing our government is sending tax dollars to other countries to support other's is an outrage. Our government is the BIGGEST PROBLEM our country has always worried about everyone else abroad but cares nothing for those here in AMERICA !!!! Millions here are homeless ,without food and basic necessities and they send money to those who even hate AMERICA, makes no sense..

Well when we gave our christmas to them that one year they were mostly VN vets. My God they cried when they got the tents and sleeping bags. It shouldn't be this way.

Breaks my heart. I am so blessed. One year we went and bought sleeping bags, tents and socks for the cardboard hut people. Omg they were so grateful. I wish I could do that again.
