Do you give money to the Salvation Army?

Its that time of the year. The bells are ringing, the buckets are out and they are waiting outside the stores.

Salvation Army :A worldwide Christian evangelical organization on quasi-military lines. Established by William Booth, it is noted for its work with the poor and for its brass bands

I usually donate to the Salvation Army do you?

Sometimes, I do.... mostly I give to needy women, trying to move forward.,.... escape negative environments..... and grow..... I teach them how to step forward and look out for theirs..... and themselves.....!!

I prefer donating to them rather than the Red Cross, as the majority of the money raised by the SA goes to helping others and they definitely don't pay 6 and 7 digit salaries from donated money!

Every time I pass the 'bell ringing w/kettle'!
They are the 'only real non-profit' CHARITY!
Their CEO doesn't make 6 figures, as does
the others!
I always give a 'generous tax exempt' donation,
yearly!

I also give money to my grandchildren specifically to put in the kettles.

With more than 90% of collections actually helping people in need (vs less than 40% for most government programs) I am happy to donate.

every time i leave the store i drop off money,,it might not be much this year, anything will help out,,i would like to see every child have food on the table and clothes and some toys...

Nor will I ever. During WWII when our wounded soldiers were lying in hospital beds the SA Grey Ladies came around and sold them cigarettes at $.25 a pack (twice what they were selling for in stores) that were clearly marked 'donated to the Salvation Army'. When as a vet rep I was trying o find shelter for a homeless woman veteran I was told that 'they have no services to offer women.' And when I was burned (arson) out of my home, lost EVERYTHING, on Christmas Day they refused ANY help whatsoever, wouldn't even give me a discount on the clothing in the store so I could have a change of clothes.

No...I do NOT donate to them.

They are one of the only charities I give money too. I will also be donating to Toys for Tots at Walmart and donate a turkey to the food pantries. My wife and I have been there in the past so we always try to give to those less fortunate when we can.

It's a great cause and we would be helping them touch the lives of the poor and needy. I believe if we were ever in a situation like that we would want the same thing so we have to pay our dues when it's needed

More of their donations percentage-wise go to actually helping people. The head of the Salvation Army is paid a mere $13,000.00 per annum. Very different than most other charities.

Rating agencies report that they are one of, if not the, most efficient in getting donations to people in need. That is one reason I gladly donate several times a year.

Unlike United Way which spends $$$$ on sob story movies that companies play to their employees and bully into signing the card. An ridiculous fancy offices downtown. I'll stop now or I will rant about them.

The United Way's president's annual pay is more than the lifetime income of the Salvation Army president.
