But it depends on what the food was and where it landed.

...not normally, but last week I was starving and had one bagel left and just as I was about to bite into it, I accidently dropped it. Five second rule was in full play

Germs are everywhere. What's the big deal if a few germs from the floor gets in our food?

Most of the time. It would depend on the ground. Grass and dirt and stuff is fine because to me, that's natural. I'm more picky with floors. It also depends on how badly I want the thing that's fallen.

That's gross, really really really gross, plz, who ever came up with this stupid idea? once the food is on the ground, it's dirty, doesn't matter if it is covered with unhealthy stuff or not, and no matter how fast you can pick it up before you "think" it's dirty.

What's the point of throwing the food out if the floor is clean?
  • ed Dave Th... 2012/11/20 09:45:39
    ed
because even if the floor might look clean there is still probably a lot of bacteria that we can't see so why take the chance.

Sure, but only when it looks safe. I wouldn't eat after the "one second rule" if my food landed on wet pavement, in the toilet, or a trash can, but that should go without saying.

It depends on the cleanliness of the floor and the food that fell on it. Anything sticky? No 5 second rule allowed!

I thought it was the ten second rule? But anyway, usually I won't eat it if it fell on the floor, no.

I never heard of the five or ten second rule.

It just means if you dropped a piece of food on the floor it's good for ten seconds to pick up and eat. lol. The logic behind it is that it hasn't gotten too dirty yet.

Unless the floor is really dirty and / or what was dropped has a "wet" consistency. In those situations the dogs have the honors!

It's a silly made-up rule which states that it is safe to eat food off of the floor if it has been down there for five seconds or less.
  • Nichole 2012/11/19 04:43:22

I don't care how long it was on the floor. I am NOT going to eat it!!
