We should all have the right to fly the American Flag. I have a spotlight on my flag day and night because I'm proud to be an American even though some people find this to be politically incorrect. Unfortunately, my friend, who is an Iraqi Vet was told by his HOA(Home Owners Association) that he has to take down his flag that's hanging from his porch on his townhouse because it might offend others and that it is against rules and regulations. It is a relatively small flag and is attached to the front of his townhouse. It has flown there for at least 15 years and nothing has ever been said about it until someone new moved in a few months ago. Hmmmm, you think that might be a coincidence? I think not! Our freedoms are being taken away from us by this government on a daily basis and one freedom should be the RIGHT TO FLY OUR GREAT AMERICAN FLAG on our homes! My friend is going to fight the HOA. As he puts it, he fought for America and the flag that represents our country and he should have the right to fly the flag that he put his life on the line for! Does anyone know if this is unconstitutional or not?

I am proud of my brother Grant, my cousins, my grandfathers and every other American who is or has served for ME! I love them even if I don't know them. When I see a solider I make it a point to thank them and hug them if they will let me. I tear up when I see them because I know they willingly enlist knowing what they might face. I love their families who stay behind waiting. I love the freedom our flag represents and til the day I die I will fly OUR flag!

So you fly the American flag and the flag of those who wanted to secede from America? I'm sorry, I don't quite get that one.

EDIT: Since the "southern thang" has blocked me: Sweetie, I would qualify for the Daughters of the Confederacy were I so inclined to join the group. I had at least two Confederate ancestors. I may be from Pennsylvania, but my dad is from Texas, and that's where I've spent some good chunks of my life.

Now, you want to EXPLAIN, or just tell me I'd never understand?

Actually, I had two known ancestors in the Confederacy and my dad's from Texas, where I have spent some large portions of my life. If I wanted to, I could qualify for the Daughters of the Confederacy. Neither of you have actually offered any explanation for the dichotomy of being loyal to the Union and the Confederacy both, just slogans and pictures.

Edit: Wow, two blocks in one day! I'm on a roll. And no insults were thrown, either. I wasn't denying people the right to fly the Confederate flag if they so choose. I'm questioning the thinking that you can be loyal to the Union (American flag) and the Confederacy at the same time.

I consider it to be my flag, I too have known ancestors that fought for the south. There is absolutely nothing wrong with flying the Southern Cross, it's about heritage, not hate!

Doesn't that just annoy ya when people automatically assume that the rebel flag is about racism?
If that was the case, then many tribes were racist because there were many of the 5 civilized tribes that fought in the Civil War.
