I still do it sometimes when I am traveling and I did it more when I lived outside the city but I do most of my driving in the the middle of the DFW metroplex now and most ppl wouldn't notice it if you did flash your lights.

But not always to warn someone of a nearby cop. Sometimes I flick my lights at people just to see if they'll slow down. I almost always get rewarded with flashing tail lights.

All the time for photo radar. Photo radar vehicles are fake police. They aren't even manned by police officers.

Mostly to warn of hazards or remind someone to turn off their "brights".

I flick the lights for different reasons. I've flicked the lights to warn someone that there is something hanging out their door. I've flicked them because there is a hazard. I've flicked them to remind someone they are driving with their bright lights.

That is illegal in my state. I ride a motorcycle, and we are supposed to tap our heads to warn other bikers. I refuse to warn anyone the law is close by. If you are breaking the law, you deserve whatever you bring upon yourself for breaking it. Cause and effect. Several members of my family are law enforcers and military professionals.... could be why I don't help out lawbreakers..... protect and serve

Out here, it means there are animals near the road ~

Usually one of these, and in this order, too...

    rocky mountain elk

    white tail deer

    bighorn sheep

    bison

Oh, man....we have moose, deer and bear....in that order. IF you survive, the repair bills are staggering. Especially if you hit that guy you have listed at the bottom there....

Too many cops get hit every year because someone wasn't alert. Cop standing next to a vehicle roadside gets hit far more often than should happen.....and with texting and all.....

And, it may slow someone down for their own good....and mine.

Here in Michigan they would have no idea you were being helpful and unfortunately see it as a sign of aggression.

No disrespect intended, that;s just how we speak in Australia, quite liberal on the colloquialisms here.

I hope you were referring to wild boar. We have them in the countryside here.
It's a good idea to flick your lights if there are wild animals at roadside or in the road.

Nice. I'll bet when the day comes you have to deal with them, you'll wish you'd never said that. Unless you are better trained than they are, you'll loose. Ever seen a German Shepard pull a 250 lb man out from under a house by his arm? Brutal. Dude was warned several times - oh WELL!

Yes, I do, simply because the Police target the easy areas and don't go near the lawless areas here, where car crime is rampant. Everyone here warns.

Odd reasoning. So this method is in protest? What do you all predict will happen in the future because you all condone each other's lawlessness in your area? Law enforcement officers are FAR from stupid - in fact, they are incredibly intelligent. Things like calm, intelligent COMMUNICATIONS work well when wanting something from them. Organize a group of citizens, put together a request in writing, take it to the Chief, and get things changed the RIGHT way. Your way won't work.

We are talking people doing 35mph in a 30mph zone, while other areas are being ignored where joyriders kill innocent people, do you really think there hasn't been attempts at COMMUNICATION on this subject...?? Its all about easy targets to bring in revenue for the goverment. West Belfast has one of the highest car crime rates in the UK, and feeble attempts are made when someone gets killed, but in Northern Ireland it's all about money, and by the way if I saw someone with speed so high they were actually a danger, then the police could have them.
