Do you find it saddening that many of the world's tribal cultures (particularly those in Africa and South America) are disappearing thanks to tourism and western involvement? Or do you think it is a sign of progress?

It's a little sad, but ultimately, the value of a cultural practice is measured by people's willingness to adopt it. It's not like these people are actually being killed off, but that they themselves decided that, on a whole, they would prefer a more "modern" lifestyle. And ultimately, given that it's their culture and their choice, who are we to mourn it?

I think the world is changing and if they don't change with it they will perish. They are people, not just another endangered species. They should retain their skills and knowledge and at the same time gain skills and knowledge of the rest of the world. I would call it a sign of reality and not necessarily a sign of progress.
