Do you find it intrusive that after you pay your check to the food server that he or she will tell you, "Next time you come here, make sure you ask for me?"

It's not intrusive at all. It's merely a request. You are under no obligation, of course. What's so "intrusive" about it. It's not like the server was asking for your social security number or bra size...

There have been some food places I ate at in the past that I knew someone special to ask for but now most of them have moved onto better jobs or something.

If you appreciate an individuals service it is perfectly O.K. To ask for them next time. Knowing and patronizing one server leads to better friendlier service.

I would say of course. In my mind I would be thinking what a twat let's go elsewhere.

There is a restaurant near me where the waiter actually sat down at our table to take the order. I told him in no uncertain terms to get lost. I hate over familiarity from waiters. With a good waiter, you barely know they are there.

By being over familiar and to be frank, cheesy, like the person the poster gave the example, they are already showing contempt for their customers. I didnt invite Joe Nobody along to dine with me, my family or friends.
I always put good and poor service onto twitter and facebook. Has a great effect.
I will always tip quiet, efficient waiters who get on with their jobs and dont intrude. I dont even leave a bean for those annoying sorts one finds in places like TGI Friday.

This so odd and presumptuous since most restaurants rotate their servers each night unless that restaurant is a very fancy one where each has his/her own set of tables. Yes, I would ask the server's name if I like hims/her and would ask when making the next reservation for her table so that we could be seated there.

I have never had that happen. I can only think of one place where they might even ask you to do that, and that's TGI Friday's, but we only just got that here anyway and I've only been once.

I meant Not intrusive....but I can't change it...ANYWAY, I think it is a good marketing tool, and just general friendliness...Unless you eat at a place the same time everyday, I think it's unlikely you would get the same server anyway...they work different shifts usually...
If I didn't care for my server, I would HOPE I didn't get that person again...

I've never had that happen. When I go to a restaurant I get whatever server has that section, and I'll only ask for a new one if the server is rude or incompetent. I'm more concerned with who's making my food.

no not at all; to me it means the waiter or triss will remember you and they'll make you feel welcome, after all they're trying to do a job a far different story if they're rude to you, but no i like that kinda thing

If I like a waiter or a Waitress, I will ask for them by name. My family always did that when we went out to eat. I was raise eating out on Friday, Saturday lunch and dinner and Sunday dinner out. My grandfather and grandmother worked all week long and this was their time to go out and socialize with their friends. So did my mom so I never new any better and we always had our favorite waters and waitresses.

They work for tips. If u left a descent one and u r a polite customer of course they will ask. I would rather be around nice customers that know how to tip, than high matainence ones that tip lousy.

If you have gotten really good service, I think it would be a great idea. However, in most cases, I believe that servers are assigned to certain tables, so if you really want the server the next time, ask where the server is working before you are seated, and then it wouldnt be a problem for other servers.
