Do you feel that Christianity is the most peaceful religion? If so did you know that two of the most peaceful characters in history Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr were influenced to be peaceful by Jainism and not by Christianity ?

Here is an article telling about Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. and their being influenced by Christianity..
http://www.chron.com/life/houston-belief/article/Their-dream-...

Here is a quote from Author Sam Harris from his book "Letter To A Christian Nation"..
“If you think that it would be impossible to improve upon the Ten
Commandments as a statement of morality, you really owe it to yourself
to read some other scriptures. Once again, we need look no further than
the Jains: Mahavira, the Jain patriarch, surpassed the morality of the
Bible with a single sentence: "Do not injure, abuse, oppress, enslave,
insult, torment, torture, or kill any creature or living being."
Imagine how different our world might be if the Bible contained this as
its central precept. Christians have abused, oppressed, enslaved,
insulted, tormented, tortured, and killed people in the name of God for
centuries, on the basis of a theologically defensible reading of the
Bible.

Right at the moment it may present itself as such, because the country's that established the power and spread of Christianity have developed to a stage where peace and reason is beginning to come to the fore. In other words they cant use religion anymore to destroy and loot whole civilizations. Just look at what happened in the Americas after the Spanish introduced their version of religion and civilization there. Islam, puts material property and sexual possession above all else. a religion that promotes chopping of a hand for the theft of food or one that terrorizes women into hiding their whole body in outrageous bags or seems to have no problem with taking a knife to their children's genitals just to show how religious they are, or to make sure they are no more then unhappy baby makers is also hardly my idea of peaceful. It matters not what religion you go to it is interested in control and will kill to gain it if it can get away with it. Only non religious aims have a chance of promoting peace..

while the one sentence you offer of Jainism is outstanding, I haven't thought about that religion for many years and I don't remember much about it, so I have to defer on a global opinion about it until I study it a bit more.

There is nothing peaceful about christianity. There are some christians who use christianity to be great people - and they do that by ignoring large tracts of their scriptures. That is true of any of the three abrahamic religions. There are great people in all of them, but taken literally, or in the hands of fundamentalists, they are all quite evil and violent.

Now are ALL people who call themselves following Christ's teachings? Probably not. Does anyone run around yelling "Christ is Great" and then blow up a bus full of people they don't know? Nope. I haven't heard Mr. Romney say anything about Islam has no reason to exist, or that Mormons will rule the world....the Amish are awfully quiet in their lives, I don't think I’ve heard someone yell "Hail Odin" and start shooting soldiers at Fort Hood....nope seems like the only hate filled group is Islam...I know shocking to hear, right?

Now if we go back a few centuries, you can find heinous acts being perpetrated by those espousing Chrsitinaity - back when Odin's followers where cutting off heads, Thuggies ran around strangling people in mass, and the followers of Shinto still gutted themselves for shaming the family.

But, not in recent – oh, give or take a hundred years or so – have Christians been at the for front of the slaughter of inncoents. Once again, that would be once again the Islamist of the world.

If you ever do get the chance, though, do go, as it really is an...invigorating... as well as a beautiful country, and the wine and food are terrific.

Christianity is definitely NOT the most peaceful religion. None are quite peaceful, but we make wars over trying to have peace. We fight and say my religion is better than yours and tell people their religion is bad or whatever, so I'm atheist/satanic which can get me lot of crap dished out and say its bad, but whatever, and i am that religion because I hate how traditional religions are portrayed and taught in America today. Christianity and catholicism in the bible say to not bear false gods but then they say to praise Mary or jesus or Joseph or the saints and they're breaking their own rules and that could cause a fighter controversy or whatever but I'm just pointing that out, don't yell at me... :)

Circus - you seem like a well spoken young woman, why would anyone yell at you? That's one of the things that this type of communication is supposed to eliminate, so how's Satanism working out for you? I've a couple of friendds along the way who have been witches and it's always been fun to banter with them about dancing naked in the moonlight and such.....and the never invite me :-) So, continue to speak up!!! Bravo for you!!

No. I'm an atheist and would never hurt anyone. Christians have been burning people at the stake, starting wars, killing innocent Jewish people, etc. Islam is up there too... Not saying that I hate any religion, I just recognize that violence caused by religions is not okay and is just as bad as war over land.

Crazy dictators that simply destroy religion only to replace one God with another (themselves), do not count.

Let's look at naturally occurring atheism.

I responded as I did because it is correct. It is quite obviously you that has ingested apologetics over reality.

Not only is atheism not a religion (unless the term has lost all meaning, forcing us to come up with a different term for those that truly believe, using utter faith, in supernatural dogmas), but naturally occurring atheism has been shown to be a force for peace.... as the video alluded. Quite clearly.

    LOL

Fingers in your ears? You are now obviously being purposefully obtuse, like a child.

Suggesting that Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler, etc... killed people in the name of spreading atheism would make you an historical nitwit. A Christian apologist. These crazy dictators killed the name of power alone. They destroyed ALL power structures in their way, including religion. They then simply replaced one religion with another, a worship of themselves. Even down to claiming deity status and performing "miracles" in many cases. Crazy dictators are just that: Crazy dictators. Pinning their atrocities on atheism simply because they were not Christians is childish lunacy. Obviously.

However, where atheism is allowed to flourish naturally, peace is soon to follow. So, this idea that atheism produces hedonism and debauchery are quite clearly, false. The exact opposite occurs and we have plenty of data to show this.

    Anything else?

Buddhism, like cristianity started off pretty peacful but has been corrupted over time. The more followers a religion has, the more it stresses dogma over people.

True. To me a religion needs to involve a god. But I take your point about the reincarnation thing, and about nirvana. I'm not really sure how much emphasis there is on nirvana vs reincarnation - I will have to review the concept. I don't think it's an afterlife in the same sense as the heaven of the abrahamic religions. I'll take the matter under advisement....

Sounds like mixing apples and oranges. Most religions have an ideology of peace. Governments, ethnic groups and various populations and individuals are a different story. The tend to wrap themselves in their particular religion but in fact have nothing to do with that religion's ideology.
