Do You Feel Schools Are Doing Enough To Prevent & Stop Bullying?

The Writer Guy 2010/02/13 06:14:55
In a recent incident, a boy at a local school here in Southern California was threatened by two other boys. They taunted him, telling the 11 year old saying to him, "We know you want this."

The bullying and taunting escalated and the 2 boys threatened the other, telling him they'd rape him and leave him to die. The young boy told his mother and she then went through the school. But to her disappointment she wasn't helped much. She was asked if her son's friends ever defend him. She was told that it was the first time they'd ever heard of any bullying, even though this mother had complained and shared her concerns multiple times with the school leaders.
The teacher of her son and the other boys said about this incident, "He needs to man up and take it."

Since when was bullying and threats of rape handled so carelessly after so much of this behavoir has led to horrible acts of those bullied?. From attacking the schools, to suicide. When do they become involved?
You!

School are not doing anything to prevent this. I was bullied before, and if I hadn't gotten into a fight with him, 2/3 of the class would not admit to the principal that they are being bullied by the same guy.

Sure, they say that you should toughen up, but if this happens to a girl, would they say the same? Of course not.. If the boy commits suicide, would they even take the blame? No. All they could do was say sorry.

My son was bullied when he was very young. I stepped in and reported it to the school and like always, no one listened until I threatened to bring the media into it. Funny how things quickly changed after that.

    True.
But seriously, more should be done about bullies. Schools don't take it serious at all.

It happens everywhere sad to say. Schools need to step up to the plate & accept responsibility or they should be forced to. Some do but the vast majority don't. Children are required by law to attend school. Schools should be required by law to protect students. Expell the bullies, hold the parents liable, & fine them heavily.

well there are video cameras everywere at school so most of the bullying goes in on feald trips or out side of school or on the bus (my friend got flashed by a boy on her bus (like no underwear) and he only got a few days of oss) and we got a suicide last year

Schools aren't doing enough to stop bullying but at my school they have meetings and bullying training,so that if you were ever bullied you would be able to defend yourself correctly.

And how does one do that when you cannot control other's thoughts about bullying. The solutions aren't just slogans I hope. Because this answer to the issue has only left more questions.

This is pathetic...how can schools not take this seriously? Kids that have been bullied, or are currently being bullied can do unspeakable things. From suicide, to shooting up the schools, and self inflicted harm. If I was that mother I would take serious action on the schools. Bullying is a HUGE problem...and it needs to be realized that this is a subject that isnt played around with.

I don't think they take every precaution that they should because of their pay. Their are some teachers at my school who feels that since they ain't getting payed enough then they don't have to do as they should. I think they are taking it out on the student's

She did. They refused to take a report and said it wasn't a police matter. The situation is still going on. All this happened within the last two days. I am the journalist she picked to tell her story. Within the next few days I'll be releasing the full story.

they threatened to rape this boy, I don't understand this what are they waiting for for them to rape him before they take any action. I hope by you telling the stroy, this will be enough for someone to take action and protect this boy.

Something similar happened to a friend of mine, the school didnt help at all plus it was the school with the best reputation round here, her sons grades fell he wagged school it wasnt him who told his mum it was other kids mums...the headteacher done nothing, he even told her that if she carried on with the complaining he would make sure no other schools would accept her boy...its all wrong

If that happened in my school, they would suspend the kids! But no matter how hard anyone trys to prevent bullying, its never going to stop. It seems in high school no one really cares about bullying, everyone is just going there own ways. Its like the most bullying i have ever heard of was in elementary school...

With security like this at schools, there is a high chance of it really happening.
