Oops, that should be "nay." I live where others might have access to my dear lappy and it has a wonderful feature called "hibernate." It's always hibernating when I leave the building.

My work computer stays on all day whether I'm actually in my office or not. My laptop hibernates when I shut the lid... and I shut the lid every time I leave it. Found out the hard way that my cats like to tiptoe across my keyboard.

But, I do shut the monitor off so it looks off and my computer nicely slips into power save... If I'm gone all day, I will shut her down, though...

The cost of electricity is not something to be taken for granted, I prefer setting my computer on Hibernation, saves all the work I've been doing then resumes it once I turn it back on
    hibernation

I only turn it off if I'm done, need to charge, or get inerrupted and know from experience sessions over whether I like it or not.

I thought Hibernating was a form of leaving your computer on.
    It drains no battery? *Hmph*

Dunno about battery drain, but I do know that only my fingerprint wakes it up. I'm sure some people could get around it, but I live with idiots that are just too likely to get snoopy, not geeks. I'm a nerd, so I should know.

Turning a PC on and off is not good for it. Puts a lot of stress on it to reboot all the time. Best to have it set to 'Hibernate'.
    Can do this via:
    Control Panel>
    Display>
    Screen Saver Tab>
    Power button there
Then Power Scheme settings of 'Advanced and Hibernate' tabs. :
'When I Press Power Button on My Computer' - Hibernate.
On 'Hibernate' tab...check box: Enable Hibernation.

Welcome, Sister, hope you use it...will extend PC life and start up coming out of Hibernation is a lot faster...with everything showing the same as when you hibernated it. And not to worry, your modem/internet connection, automatically disconnects during Hibernation.
