I do all the time, and tend to avoid those places that give me a hassle.

Yes indeed. Our local Walmart doesn't care if you come in barefoot and I do all the time plus most of the local small shops in our area don't mind either. I have soap and water at home after a day of going barefoot.

I go everywhere barefoot and have for 14 years. No hookworm, no limb rotting fungus, just strong healthy feet. http://www.barefootalliance.org/

Never. And I don't appreciate seeing anyone's ugly feet when I am grocery shopping. Sorry, Barefoot Rich. That is my opinion.

Dogs have hookworms. and they defecate all over the place. The vet in our area is having all the dogs that come into her office tested for them and there has been an outbreak recently. You can get hookworm if you walk barefoot.

True but you can get killed by a drunk driver just driving. If you watch where your walking barefoot is safe.

Actually, I don't think it is. You can't see hookworms on the ground when you are walking. You can pick up all kinds of infections from a tiny stone, dried spit on the ground, anything. Plus you will get calluses on your feet some day and they won't be so pretty. You don't get any of this from just driving. But to each his own. Just saying.

actually the thickest skin on your body is on the soles of your feet so unless you have an open cut on your foot you will be fine

I totally agree and do the same thing myself, mostly in the local stores I am familiar with. I'm a free spirit and during the Summer will shop in Walmart completely barefoot with gym shorts on. The floor feels great and if I get some passing glances then so what? I just wash off my feet before bed.

I wouldn't even if you could. You can pick up a disease. It's unsanitary. In my State there isn't one store you are allowed to go in barefoot,so if you lived here you wouldn't have to worry about it.No store would let you in.

I would find a store I could go barefoot in.There's no law in any state anyway and you WILL NOT pick up any disease by going barefoot.Do you wear gloves all the time too

Never. You don't know what's on the floor or what others have brought in with them. It's just a bad idea.

Do you know what others have brought in with them when you touched that cart? Do you wear rubber gloves?

A lot of stores now provide anti bacterial wipes for just that purpose. Also, I grew up in the '70's. I'm not afraid of a few germs. My immune system works pretty damn good cause we didn't have all this crazy fear of germs that we do today.

Ok let me ask this, not arguing just a question. If on the way into said store wearing shoes I stepped in dog doo and you followed me in and walked where I walked how would that be different then if I was not wearing shoes as far as your contact?
  • ZB Barefoo... 2012/10/19 02:33:12

First off I wouldn't step in it cause I watch where I walk. I have dogs so it's a habit. Second, if I'm wearing shoes, which I always do outside the house, it's less of an issue. then all I have to do is clean my shoes, which is annoying in itself. There are just too many risks in running around outside the home front barefoot. IMO.

By law, no. By the businesses..lots. When I was a manager I would refuse service if the customer to be wasn't dressed properly. Remember that a business has the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

I agree and they have every right to set there own dress code and rules. But my question is why would this be a problem? If I had flips on would that be ok ?
  • ZB Barefoo... 2012/10/19 02:02:55
    ZB
Flip flops are fine. As long as you are wearing SOMETHING that protects your feet to some degree. As for what the other person said about insurance...not exactly right. But even if it was, a customer can still try to sue if they get hurt on the property.

I have started to wear shoes more often. When I was young you couldn't get me to wear them. My mom and I had a battle of wills trying to get me to wear shoes. I think she wanted me to have culture.

It's an insurance liability here... if we were to cut our feet.... so we have to wear shoes in the stores.... I understand....;)

Actually no it is not, if you walk into a store barefoot you assume all responsibility unless the store is totally negligent by leaving known hazards uncorrected.
