Tap water tests as clean and in most cases cleaner than bottled water over and over in testing by environment groups, not to mention we are draining valuable spring water sources when it's not necessary. America must break the bottle water habit and protect the environment for future generations. The best thing you can do as an American to protect our environment is put down the damn bottled water----this is a simple step we all can take.
Considering U.S. consumption rates require 17 million barrels of oil per year just to be spent on plastic water bottle production, the demand for the environmentally risky extraction process due to plastic bottles is very high. The millions of barrels of oil do not include the cost of transporting those bottles, which requires additional energy and carbon emissions, increasing the negative effects of climate change.
The United States alone consumed an estimated 29 billion plastic each year according to Science Line, and that number only counts bottled water. While only a fraction of those bottles end up being recycled, most end up in the landfill or as litter in our waterways. During each step of its lifetime, including extraction and processing of raw materials, manufacturing, product use and final disposal, a plastic bottle poses threats to the environment through intensive resource
usage, chemical toxicity and massive amounts of waste.
